Destro G.I. Joe (Super7) (Super7)Good thing I decided to hold off a bit on the second wave of G.I. Joe Ultimates, since I was able to get all of them for just under a hundred total, the last of which being Destro, another major C.O.B.R.A. member. Unlike the other figures in this wave, Destro doesn't suffer from glossy, unpainted skin, since he has no visible skin. His head is covered by a metal helmet, featuring a metallic finish, and it looks really good. Since it's a cartoon, Destro's helmet expresses with him, hence why there's thick eyebrows on it. He comes with four heads, a bit more than usual for Ultimates: one neutral, one shouting, one laughing, and one covered in lava, coming from one of the early five-part episodes. All of them are great, and the clean paint certainly helps. At about 7 1/4" tall, Destro wears a rather funky outfit that's mostly black and red. He has a rather big collar on what I assume is a coat, with a visible six-pack on the shirt underneath. I'm not sure what's the point of having straps on his right thigh, but I assume it's just a fashion thing. All in all, Super7's sculptors did a good job bring his traditional design to the Ultimates world, and the paint is pretty decent. There's some bleed here and there, but the overall appearance is better than the rest of the wave, since he's not as cheap-looking. Destro's design does limit his movement a bit, and in this case, he doesn't have any chest or shin joints like the rest of the line. A chest joint would've broken up the look of the torso too much, and shin swivels could've been done, but I imagine it was too hard to work around the boot design. Still, he gets a barbell head, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and ankles, swivel biceps and thighs, ball-jointed waist, and hinged knees. The head and waist are just as locked down as the others in wave two, but the arms and legs can manage plenty of poses. Being a weapons dealer, it's no surprise Destro is well-outfitted with accessories. There's three different pistols for him to wield, two of which look more like laser blasters than anything, along with a big rocket launcher, with a missile that fits inside. A more specific extra is the molecular reducer/enlarger, coming from the cartoon's Christmas episode, another piece with a nice metallic finish. To make him look more dangerous, Destro has a pair of missile racks that go on his forearms, alongside a grenade rack and an ancestral mask, which looks menacing, but can't be worn on him well due to the collar. Rounding things out are binoculars, a controller, a sander, four different heads as mentioned before, and four pairs of hands - two closed, two gripping, two gun gripping, and two for the controller (which can't be held very well). Out of all of wave two, I'd say Destro is best one, primarily thanks to the fact that he doesn't look like cheap dollar-store crap. The various weapons and items also help, and can be given to some of the other figures in your collection. Again, I'm glad I waited for discounts, since while these figures can be pretty good, they're not quite $55 good. - 3/25/24 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
