Hank Scorpio Simpsons (Super7) (Super7)In the history of one-shot Simpsons characters, none are more recognizable than Hank Scorpio. Granted, season 8 had a lot of great one-timers, such as camp collector John, the hard-assed but incompetent Rex Banner, and the tragic Frank Grimes, but Scorpio is fondly remembered as one of the nicest supervillains there is. We got a Playmates one years ago, but Super7 knew he was a fan-favorite, hence why he got the Ultimate treatment. Hank's portrait seems to capture the villain aspect of his character, with a stern, not-very-happy expression (somebody must've eaten part of his lunch). It looks accurate to the show, and the paint on the hair and beard is mostly clean, though the left eye is a little sloppy. Like the others, two additional heads are included: one with gritted teeth and looking off to the side, and another capturing his glorious evil laughter. All three heads look great aside from some paint issues, and they swap easily, but I wish a friendlier portrait was included. The whole thing with Hank was that while he was a bad guy, he was a great boss. Mr. Scorpio(n) wore a couple outfits in the episode, and this green turtleneck sweater comes from the attack on his lair near the end of the episode. It's a simple design, meaning it was easy for Super7 and Four Horsemen to sculpt, and the colors are good too. There's a bit of shine, most prominently on the skin, but it's not as bad as some other Ultimates. There are a few marks and imperfections, mainly on the back of the figure, with a noticeable large mark on the right arm. These sort of things could've easily been avoided, and should've been, given how much they're charging for these. Hank stands 7" tall, and is properly scaled with other figures in this 1/10 scale. There's plenty of useful articulation here, with Hank getting a barbell neck and chest, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles, swivel waist and shins, and ball-jointed hips. The joints are tight enough to hold any pose, and you can get some good range out of them. I was surprised by the chest, since Moe in wave one also had a chest joint, but was practically useless, while Hank gets plenty of tilt for his thanks to the barbell peg. Now why can't we get this kind of chest movement on every Ultimate (the Silverhawks line could really use them)? Unfortunately, Hank comes up a bit short on accessories. In addition to the three heads, he also has his flamethrower, going hand-in-hand with the laughing head. It comes in three parts which connect together easily, but keeping the hose in while he's holding the weapon is the hard part. There's also a flame effect with works great and plugs in no issue, but the soft plastic for the flamethrower has me worried it'll weigh down the nozzle and cause it to droop. He gets swappable hands as well, with two fists, two gripping hands, a pointing left, and a right holding a "World's Best Boss" mug (it's not from the show, but that doesn't make it any less true). Lastly, he gets a canister grenade, and I don't recognize it from the episode, so I assume it's lifted from the Playmates figure. A decent selection overall, but a happier head and a few other extras would've made him better. Hank may not be a perfect figure, but the fact remains that it's a Hank Scorpio figure. He's fun to pose and display, and I assume he'll become harder to resist once prices start dropping. It's a shame the line got cut short before Super7 could do any more one-offs, specifically from season eight, but hopefully Jakks Pacific isn't afraid to dive deep with the license. - 3/29/24 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
