Ralph Wiggum (Simpsons (Super7)) Review
Ralph Wiggum
Simpsons (Super7) (Super7)In the world of B-list Simpsons characters, Ralph Wiggum is one of the most iconic ones. He's a special kid, and a highly-quotable one at that, so what are the odds he'd receive an Ultimate figure? Besides, Bart(man) can't be the only kid in the line.

Ralph's default expression is a blank stare with a smile. There's not much going in his head, but his heart is certainly full of love. His design is captured well in plastic form, looking near-perfectly recreated, save for his hair. He's supposed to have a bald spot right on top, but Super7 designed it as a big piece of stringy soft plastic plopped onto the head. It throws off the appearance of an otherwise accurate figure, and the hair strands should've just been sculpted onto the head. He gets an alternate head with an ice cream cone splattered onto his forehead, recreating his "unitard" appearance from "Ice Cream of Margie (with the Light Blue Hair)." The smile is a bit more goofy on this head, so it's not just the same head with a different hairpiece. The paint is fine on both, but the edges of the eyes could look a little better.

Keeping true to The Simpsons' style, Ralph has a simple outfit, with just a shirt, slacks, belt, and shoes. It's certainly more accurate than the heads, and the paint is just as good, with a consistent finish, though there's some uneven edges on the belt. At 4 1/2" tall, Ralph is the smallest figure in the line, but I feel he's a bit oversized. Both having him in-hand and comparing him to one of the adults makes the somewhat off size noticeable, and if they shrank him down about a quarter-inch, he'd be more in-scale. For a short, stocky guy, he's surprisingly articulated, with a barbell head, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles, swivel waist, and ball-peg hips. However, because he's a short, stocky guy, his movement is rather limited, especially in the head and legs, with the former being more of just a swivel than anything. His design wasn't going to be super-dynamic, but more range in the head would've been good.

Ralph comes with a good selection of funny, character-appropriate accessories, and in addition to the extra head, he has five hands: two gripping, two holding a paste jar and lid, and a left holding a banana ("Go banana!"). The "Choo-Choo Choose You" Valentine's card is the most important accessory, and he can hold it just fine in the default hands. There's also a Coleco computer from "Lisa Gets An A," and yes, there's a cat on there, but we got one of these with Gil from the Playmates line, and that one looked much nicer. For something more recent, there's the "Warning, Do Not Hug" sign from "Friend with Benefit," and it's my favorite extra, but it could've been sculpted to fit over him better. Despite the nice accessories, he really needed more to justify the cost for such a small character. Bartman was also $55, and he came with a ton of extras, but Ralph has very little compared to the rest of the line. An extra head or two, along with more hand options, would've helped, along with a pack-in of the leprechaun that tells him to burn things.

Ralph isn't the worst figure in the line (Devil Flanders and Radioactive Man proved that), but he's certainly underwhelming. Some better articulation and more accessories would've helped him a lot, or at least a lower price, and we all know Super7 would never do the latter. Still, he offers a quite a bit, and it's a shame that Lisa got cancelled, because they would've made a perfect pair on the shelf.
