Bartman Simpsons (Jakks Pacific) (Jakks Pacific)Jakks Pacific's Simpsons line has had a pretty good start, with well-crafted figures in two different scales, containing a nice variety of characters right out the gate, and more. The show itself has been home to a variety of outfits and unique appearances for its cast, just look at how much Homers and Barts Playmates did. Super7 jumped right to variants and deep-cuts, and it ultimately cost them the license, but Jakks has done a good balance of regular versions and variants. Case in point, we already have a Bart variant in Bartman. Sure, Super7 put out one earlier this year, but did they ever making a regular Bart? Nope, so Jakks gets the advantage. Bart's Bartman disguise solely consists of him putting a purple mask and cape on him, which isn't surprising given that he came up with it on the spot to try and get an entrance discount to a comic book convention. The expression is a bit more serious than the regular Bart with the lowered brow, but he still has a smile on, and a little bigger than the basic version at that. The masked part of the head is separate sculpt from the lower part, both glued together and making up a head cobbled from various colored plastic to cut down on paint. The pupils are painted, and are nice and centered. As before, Bartman stands 3 3/4" tall, making him kid-sized, but still out of scale with the adults by a smidge. Since there's not too much about the design setting him apart from his civilian identity, Jakks was able to reuse a good chunk of parts from the standard Bart. The lower body and arms (most of the arms, at least) are recycled, but the torso is a slightly altered sculpt to have his cape attached. Yes, the cape was sculpted separately, but it's glued to his back, so don't expect it to be easily removable. Another thing to note about his appearance is the blue shirt, as in the 90s comics and other old merchandise. Playmates and Super7 gave their Bartmans the red shirt he actually wears in show, but the blue shirt is more synchronic with the Bartman look, and I feel it fits with the color of the costume better. The shoes are the only other painted parts on the figure, but the whites are at least clean. Bartman has the standard articulation for this line, with a swivel neck, swivel/hinge shoulders and wrists, revolver-joint-esque elbows, with the upper pegs working as bicep swivels, ball-jointed waist, hips, and ankles, hinged knees, and swivel thighs. Not quite as good as Super7's, but still plentiful for a Simpsons figure. Unfortunately, the shoulder range is hindered by the cape, and I wish it was made out of a softer material (and not glued onto the back) to keep it from limiting motion. The skateboard is the same as the regular Bart, but the slingshot is a new piece. It's sculpted in a ready-to-fire position, with a little rock for a projectile, and it fits in the right hand okay, but the grip isn't tight enough. The arm movement is enough for a proper pose with it, but the left hand being closed rather than open means it won't look quite right. Swapping the arms at the biceps with the regular Bart is easy, though, so you can do that to get a better pose. Super7 put out a great Bartman figure closer to the start of the year, and it was one of their best works with the license, but Jakks' version has the benefits of both being cheaper and being able to fit in with a preexisting line. However, he's Walmart-exclusive, the two words you never want to hear when talking about an action figure, since it usually means they're impossible to find. That said, their Jakks exclusives are both easier to get ahold of and stocked in large numbers, so you'll have no problem adding this young crime stopper to your collection. - 9/27/24 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
