Laurie Strode Halloween (Neca)Even if it retconned the memorable second Halloween movie, the 2018 film is darn good, with a compelling story and plenty of brutal kills. I was rewatching it the other day while writing my NECA 2018 Michael Myers review, and mentioned how I needed to scout out physical releases of its sequels. Just a day later, I found a Blu-ray set of the whole Blumhouse trilogy at Walmart. Talk about a coincidence! I watched Kills already and plan on checking out Ends this weekend, but for now, I'm going over NECA's figure of Laurie Strode, the series' other main character. The original Halloween was Jamie Lee Curtis' film debut as Laurie, making her a horror icon who has returned to the role more than once. Since 40 years has passed in-universe, teen scream queen Laurie Strode is close to sixty, as was Curtis at the time, and Trevor Grove did her likeness justice while Adrienne Smith sculpted the rest. She has a stern expression showing that she's no longer afraid of Michael, and you can clearly see her age in her likeness. Her extra head is the exact same (though the skin tone looks a little brighter), save for the glasses. The glasses can be removed, so it's worth asking why NECA made a duplicate head if that's the case. The glasses are small, thin, and clear plastic, so doing the same head but with them on already is a smart choice, so nobody will have to worry about breaking or losing them. Both heads have the same clean paint, with great work on the pupils and eyebrows. The hair has good detail and wash, but I feel it should be more blonde than gray. Laurie's old, but not that old. Laurie stands about 6 3/4" tall, making her a more average height than the towering Michael. I like the outfit chosen for her, with a jacket, boots, cross necklace (sculpted onto the chest due to how small it is), and knife holster attached to the belt. The holster can fit the knife with no issues, though the strap, once the peg it popped out, you can't get it back in. That small issue aside, the attire looks great with plenty of details, and the paint is mostly clean as well. There's some sloppiness to her jacket zipper, but that's because of how small it is, and it's not noticeable most of the time. The articulation blends in well with the sculpt, though her chest joint is prominently visible, rather than being covered up by rubber. Since layers of rubber clothing often hinder the chest's range to the point you can't tell if it moves or not, making it uncovered helps a lot, and allows for more dynamic poses. As long as I'm talking about the articulation, I may as well bring up where else Laurie moves. She has a post-and-ball head, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows (double-jointed), wrists, hips, and knees, barbell chest, ball-jointed waist and ankles, and swivel thighs. Everything moves well, and the extra parts swap easily. While I prefer swivel/hinge ankles over ball-jointed ones, the joints here work pretty well, and they blend in with the boots better. Old Lady Strode doesn't have as many accessories as Michael, but she is equipped with three firearms: a pistol, a rifle, and a shotgun. The guns look great, and her hands are sculpted for various poses with them. For close combat, she has the aforementioned knife, as well as an extra right hand for holding it. There's also the extra head with glasses, and while I like it, I wish she had a portrait with a more unique expression. While the 2018 movie isn't the first one to negate the events of her prior movies in favor of having Laurie face Michael (I admittedly haven't seen H20 yet), it was the first to significantly change her character by making her more prepared and willing to take down Michael once the time comes. Her Blumhouse incarnation fits a figure conversion more than any other version, especially by NECA (though he also did a H2 Laurie in their clothed retro line). There are a few nits here and there, but she's a great figure and despite having her now, it would be nice if NECA reissued her like they did Michael from the same film. - 7/3/25 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
