Just a quick question. I'm thinking of upgrading my paint from uber cheap craft acrylics to much higher quality Testors acrylics, starting with some basic color sets and later adding Model Master Acryl as I need. Looking up sets though, I noticed they sometime say "gloss" or "flat" colors (the latter often used for camo colors). Does this have any relevance really? I generally prefer the paint looking matte and always use a matte varnish to seal the figure.
Finishing with a matte varnish should take the shine off gloss paint, at the very least you may end up with a slightly satin finish, which I personally prefer as it's neither dry and chalky nor slick and wet looking.
I found that the gloss colors usually don't require sealing because they dry to a hard slick shell.
The flat colors can sometimes look chalky, Black especially. I usually have to seal them, otherwise dust and junk likes to stick to the paint when it's dry.
