First custom attempt--looking for advice

Posted in Custom Workstation

I'm brand new to this. I've been collecting superhero figures for a while, and I have most of the 6-inch Wonder Man figures, but none of them look right. None of them look like they weigh 380. Most of them don't look like they weigh 250. I'm looking for suggestions about which figures to scavenge parts from to build myself a good Simon Williams.

WWE John Cena or Tatanka upper bodies look like a good fit.

I have to say though, the current ML WonderMan has that body shape already, and it's 6.5 inches tall, I think it's spot on.

Why does WonderMan weigh 385 pounds? The way he's drawn doesn't make him look that heavy, especially not if he's 6'2''. Maybe his body is just extra dense or something, and that's why he weighs that much?

I agree that I've never seen Simon drawn where he looks like he weighs 380. Not when you see someone like French strongman Morgan Aste who ONLY weighs 365. They don't make action figures THAT muscular. But the current ML Wonder Man...the only thing I really like about him is the face. That is SPOT on. Otherwise, I just don't think he looks right. It's definitely the best WM that Marvel has put out, but...

Tatanka's body looks pretty good. The forearms on either one of the wrestlers are...okay. The upper arms are not right. Cena's shoulders work. But the legs...maybe I could use the thighs from the over-muscled Sentry. But the calves on him are ridiculously big.

Figures like Roman Reigns or Macho Man have the other type of muscular arms

It's a good idea to go see the figs at a store, there are a few different calf and thigh pieces too, as well as more body types.

How difficult is it to remove the knee pads? Do they come off all the figures?

Yeah, all elbow and knee pads are removable separate pieces. The tassles, skirt, necklace, and arm bands on Tatanka are also removable. Glasses on Macho Man are removable.

I would definitely consider them. Sentry is 6.75 inches. One of my Thors is 7.5. 7 inches is right in line with a lot of the Marvel "6 inch" figures.

and of course the musculature id often exaggerated, so they make good hulking bases.

Yeah, look at WWE Elite figures, there are several body types to choose from and they're constantly either on sale or found cheap online (around 7 to $12).

If you have reference pics of what you want to make, I can maybe make a suggestion for what parts to use.

consider WWE figures? all the new ones are very well articulated, but they do approach and exceed the 7" range
