Custom WorkstationFirst, a little story:
When I was a child, we were poor... very poor. So, I didn't have a whole lot of toys. What I did have was usually broken and incomplete from a donation bin, bulk leggo blocks, and the occasional GI Joes in need of new rubber O-rings. So I would make my own characters from what I had by way of cut, glue, swap, etc. But the toy series I really lusted after was Exosquad; we could never afford any. once, just once, I had a JT Marsh Arial attack E-frame; it was missing the figure, missing a wing, none of the accessories were there and the joints were loose, but damnit it was mine. so I mixed and matched GI parts until I had a reasonable facsimile of JT Marsh and I played with it to death! Now as an adult, I wanted to fill that childhood need and went searching for some used Exo squad toys. Imagine my disappointment when I found that the brand had fallen into the pit of Collectors items and were priced accordingly. even on Ebay the most incomplete broken one is cost prohibitive when one considers that a broken Eframe without a figure and no canopy costs as much as a pair of my kids shoes. So, I decided to make my own. I present Maggie Weston almost complete, Alec DeLeon in progress, and please stand by for some Kitbashed Eframes down the road.
With Maggie, I made every noob mistake I think was possible. But thanks to the experience shared freely in this community, I figured out how to correct them and not make them again. I discovered how mixing mediums is the way to go and did so liberally. I learned patience, lots of patience
For Maggie I used a Jyn Erso figure and sculpted and painted with Green Stuff, JB Weld, flattened solder wire, some minor kit bashing, and Apoxie Sculpt. Paints and Primer are Tamiya, and the mid-torso is entirely sculpted in Green Stuff. She now has a floating upper and lower body joint connected with rubber O-rings ala GI Joe. the truth is; I screwed up by over thinking it so many times I ruined the original figure parts and had to build it from scratch.
Alec is Speed Demon so far, still not sure who's clothed arms I want to use. Apoxie sculpt and Green Stuff are the main mediums, depending on what detail and body part i'm working on. I've tried out arms and head with Captain you-know-who, but I think I want something else in the end.
Please enjoy and I welcome all advice and thoughts. But, please be gentle.
*****Update: The finished Maggie Weston is now posted to the Showcase!!!*****
