Cape Swap and Glue

Posted in Custom Workstation

I'm sorta new to the world of customization. Have done a few transformer repaints and minor mods but right now I'm trying to do a Superman kit bash with a Rebirth head/cape and a Superfriends BUC. My problem is no matter what type of glue I try I cannot for the life of me get it to adhere to the figure. I've tried Superglue, Liquid Nail, and Model Cement. It just does not adhere to the figure? Do I need to prep the figure but sanding down the areas where I plan to put the cape? Or am I using the wrong adherence substance? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I was able to find a glue that worked, but I certainly keep the baking soda method in mind in case it acts up again. Thanks!

Try using (Cyanoacrylate) Superglue and Baking Soda.

I've seen that trick used on windshields. Is that better than using just the glue along with a kicker, which just speeds up the process but doesn't do much to add extra strength, which I'm assuming the baking powder does? Probably also acts as a filler...

Baking Soda causes the glue to solidify instantly, and the material can be sanded, painted, etc. It's a good gap filler.

You can speed up the glue cure time by spraying a mist of water too, no baking soda needed, Gorilla Glue has some glues that even require a water spray.

Some plastics refuse to bond with superglue, for example, the bottle that contains the glue itself. If youre trying to glue platic of that kind, youre gonna have problems.

The plastic used in Star Wars Black Clone Troopers doesn't like superglue, I have a tough time sticking things to it.

How about you use some small nails to attach the cape to the figure, and then hide them somehow?
