The whole picture-stealing thing still confuses me. I mean, if you take a picture of a toy, and someone decides to take that picture and use it in their site to just show others what a great figure it is, why would thier site be closed down or why would they be punished for that? They're just trying to share a picture with everyone with absolutely no malice intended and they get sued? I don't know, that seems kinda prickish to me.
But I can understand people getting upset if their pictures are used wihtout their permission. You may wany to have a unique picture and some guy just comes and steals the idea, alright, I agree that's pretty messed up.
Maybe he was looking to sell the site all along and just gave up? Is it possible to have your site shut down because of using other peoples pictures without permission? I think many of his pics were acquired from other Websites and Ebay (I recognized allot of them from my web searching)
I have no clue why he closed the web site. It was the most encompassing site online. I knew he was selling a version of his web site but when I looked into it he wasn't selling it on CD. It was a whole external hard drive with everything loaded on it that he was trying to sell. I don't remember the exact cost but it was quite expensive and I doubt anyone shelled out the cash he was looking for. That could be one reason he got rid of it.
Don't get me wrong on the unreleased figs listed. I loved the fact that he listed unreleased figs but throwing them in lists with the figs that were released just creates confusion. Just could have been better organized
My old site was CJK Toy Bay I don't even know what's left of it anymore. Most of the stuff probably still works but it'll all come down eventually.
Captain Coder, I don't know how to tell you how good your website is know that I have looked it over without it souding like a reargaurd action, so I won't try.
CJK Toy Bay, do you think any of the unwanted attention led to the closing of his site? By the way, did you know He was selling his website on cd with fullsize pictures?
I can't chide them for listing unreleased figures, that was one thing I really liked.
It was a decent site but definetly not the most accurate. There were a few lines that he just pulled lists of from some place and they weren't correct. Quite a few unreleased items as well as names that were changed when the final product was released.
Also if you were to go find yourself a copy of the Price Guide to Action Figures you would have pretty much the same lists. Word for word, mispelling for mispelling.
Then if you were to check out my old web site you'd find some of the pictures he used, w/o my permission mind you. I called him out on it, never got a response but he did list me as one if his contributors after the fact.
All in all it was a decent source of information but anyone can copy lists and cut and paste pictures.
Now what we have here at Figure Realm is a knowledgable source of collectors who not only know the lists but have lived with the toys and takin the pictures. You just can't beat real world experience
Sorry, no offence, I alway looked at this site as a store. It had listings for every action figure to come out in the kast thirty years, and pictures (allbeit thumbnails) for most ot them.
I'm offended... I thought this place was the best?? I know they had quite a few checklists. I'm always sorry to see other action figure sites drop off the net. I hate to see all that information lost. I would have loved to been able to get ahold of it so I could continue sharing it with everyone.
Is there any features you used there that Figure Realm doesn't have?
Curioser and curioser. This seems to be the running them from everyone I talk to. You don't know what you were missing, it was the best archive on the internet.
Nope. The guy running it posted some messages here to advertise it when he put it up a couple years ago, but he's never come back since. I don't know anyone that knew him or visited the site...

And what was your old site anyway?
Thanks

Just in case you haven't explored this site thoroughly, along with the store we do have an ever-growing gallery section:
and over 14,000 figures listed in the checklists:
And we are always looking for help working on either one of these to keep them growing
