To Articulate or Not to Articulate

Posted in Action Figure Chatter

Whats up guys! Searched around and didn't find anything on this exactly.

I was just wondering where you stand on articulation. Do you prefer your figures to be articulated or statue like?

Recently I decided on only articulated figures for the pose ability but really like some barely articulated figures just find it harder to pull the trigger and shell out the cash for something I can't really play with.

Also what's with Spawn figures? I find some really nicely articulated figures then almost statues in the same series...

Nice! That sounds awesome! I have a custom idea to articulate the Halo Reach Legendary Edition statue figures. Totally clueless how to do it, but if I do I'll let you know.

I agree, purity. I also have a few McFarlane Figures that aren't near my typical articulated likes but they are awesome looking. I've actually bought some cheaper figures to practice customizing joints so I can try and make my favorites more pose-able.

For me, I highly prefer articulation and about 95% of the figures I own are articulated. However, there are many figures(mainly from Spawn) in which I am in love with their paint, sculpt, and overall look, or I may love the character, but the articulation is limited to non-existent. I still buy them though. I say, if you like how the figure looks buy two and use the pieces of one and make a custom out of it. I'll be doing that for Spawn's Redeemer figure. I've got one, nad if I can get my hands on another, I'll put the armor, accessories, and wings on a ML body. So yes, I wish every figure was awesome looking and greatly articulated to boot, but if it still looks cool I say why not.

Yeah, McFarlane Toys' main focus is to, as Mr. McFarlane himself has said "get it right." As in, he wants to make sure his figures look incredible, which they do. Also, bear in mind the figures of when McFarlane toys was first starting. They didn't look so proffessional and life-like as they do today. McFarlane toys really revolutionized the toy making business by making figures that looked outstanding. I think they started to realize some collectors are in love with articulation, so they've started to articulate some figures.

I agree, but I usually collect articulated figures.

I kind of like a happy medium between the two. Neca figures lately have really been getting more articulated and I'm thrilled about it. For instance, NECA RE5 Chris was super detailed, and really well articulated. He wasn't say... ML articulated, but enough so that he could actually hold his guns properly and all that.

For me I'm about the looks, so if its statue like, next to no articulation, I'm fine with that. But the articulation is a definite bonus.
