the scuttlebutt I heard was that the LCBH line was dropped because the Marvel Toys team is now working with Hasbro to get the Marvel Legends line back to the quality that it had with ToyBiz AKA Marvel Toys. they just don't have the time or resources to devote to LCBH. and with all the pics popping up of the Hasbro Marvel stuff at Toy Fair it looks like they will be VERY busy indeed.
you guys are gonna have to make customs of those Indie characters now.
my local shops have rediculous amounts of sd, death, and madman. also lots of the body bags. only one walmart in the area has sold all of their series one, and for some reason only got obrien from series 2. I just want star, darkness, and monkey man.
as for the quality of these figures, their articulation is outstanding, but the general construction is poor. I've purchased 4 different bodybags before finally giving up and getting another conan(clownfaces shoulders were cracked open everytime), and I have yet to pop off savage dragon's head without having the shove his neck joint back into his torso. my first madman practically fell apart the first time I posed him. so far, the only good glue job I have seen with LCBH has been dredd's helmet, which I didn't want glued on in the first place.
it is horrible that this line of figures is ending the way it is, especially since hasbro is not showing any signs of backing away from ball joints. perhaps now marvel can work on a military toy line, to help out all of us gunplay customizers. until then, I'm stuck working with tna figs.
Perhaps they produced too much of series #1, they are gathering dust in hordes on the shelf at all of the local Wal-Marts! As for series #2, I've only seen O'Brien, Stryker, and the Darkness at some comic book shops. I've only got O'brien and of course Judge Death (originally released with series #1) I still have yet to see Star and Marv. I haven't bought the other two that I've seen because I would rather get all of them at the same time so I can complete Monkeyman, who at this point is just two lonely legs...
The quality of these figures is far superior to Hasbro's stuff. Perhaps these have not sold well as the characters depicted are not as well known as more 'mainstream' MARVEL characters. In addition, the comics made by these companies like Dark Horse, Top Cow, and Image might draw a different demographic crowd than the old reliable Marvel customer base. Fans of Sin City, for example, may not have the same appreciation for toys and action figures as they do for the sex and violence depicted in Frank Miller's stories. Then there are characters like Star...(who?...) I don't know, I think he was a supporting character in "The Savage Dragon".
Overall, I think the LCBH concept of making characters from other companies is brilliant, even if they screwed the pooch on marketing them and producing the different series in disproportionate amounts.
I am definitely bummed about them canceling this series, I was really looking forward to the new releases.
Walmart was the only chain that bought any and the etailers just didn't buy enough to make it worth while.
Now this was a rumor that has circulated since October, but was denounced by Marvel. Speculation was that they denied it to keep stock up thru the end of the year.
I really wanted a Rogue trooper & the new Conan also!
Lets be honest this wave was awesome for custom parts fodder!
