MODOK Series

Action Figure ChatterIt's that time again. Time for me to give my report on the MODOK Series of Marvel Legends figures.
Just saw them at Toy R Us today and got one.
COME ON!! MODOK?!? WTF? Who wants MODOK!?!
okay, that's out of my system.
First, there are a BUNCH of variants this time. Like a variant(s) of every figure but one.
Beta Ray Bill actually looks really good. That's all.
Captain Marvel would be good if there was finger articulation greater that waving and a fist. What is the point of making the fingers move if all they can form are a fist? Didn't see the variant.
this is the only figure I thought was worth buying in this series. (I could have had one of each of the rest too) I love the paint and figure. I'm going to fully review him. Didn't see the variant.
No finger articulation at all. Just wrist moves. under arm wings look poorly painted. Didn't see the variant.
ANOTHER IRON MAN?!? This one looks okay, the paint isn't very good (too transparent). His face with the mask off looks bad. Didn't see the variant.
I hate this figure. The only thing it has is another head, but this short haired version looks bad. The ones I saw had bad paint work and the articulation in the waist looks stupid. Didn't see either variant.
MODOK is just stupid

Please wait...

Sci Fi on eBay
I went looking for Thorbuster too but when I saw it it looked kinda...cheesy? I don't know what the right word for it is but it looked bootleg, like the plastic it was made of was a poor quality. Maybe it was just that one they had (they only had one)? Maybe it'll look good with a new paint job?
The guy at the register also collected MLs and said he saw the workers hoard the variants already >_< At least I got a Beta Ray and Moon Knight for a trade or custom :P
good luck on your search sir. if I come across a 2nd one it's yours.
could you use the Iron Man Thor Buster? I have one of those...
You might as well sell them all and go back to the store to buy more
The Spider Woman and Moon Knight variants are the exact same figures with different paint. Wasp also has a different head along with the paint - same body.
I like the color scheme of the regular MK figure even though it's different from the comic. I guess they based him on the 2 issues of Marvel Team-Up that he was in last year. The variant is supposed to be closer to his description in the comics, which is weird since they made that the variant!
the unbelievable happened today - I went back to the Toys R Us where I got the Red Var. Wasp and came out with 1 Cap Marvel Var., 1 Spider Woman Var., 1 Destroyer / Iron Man Var. (holy crap!!!) and 2 Moon Knight Var. I found 1 of the MK's and the SW variants and after looking for more I noticed they had a couple open boxes up on top of the shelves on the opposite side of the aisle. 2 very nice and accomodating employees actually pulled the boxes down and let me go through them and I came up with the others.
Now I'm torn - do I list all 5 on ebay and rake in a bundle? I'd like to keep the Wasp and use her for a custom I have in mind but I've seen lot auctions for all 5 of these variants closing at over $130... what to do, what to do....
I bought the standard issue series complete on eBay because it seemed like they were available everywhere else in the USA except Gainesville FL! I lucked into an auction that had a BIN get Free Shipping that put all of 'em at around $11 each.
The Spider Woman fig sucks bad. Lurches forward like she's drunk and about to hurl. Weak legs and no articulation in hands. The web wings are molded rubber and hook into slots under the arm. Haven't seen the variant and don't expect too since the Store Employees here hoard 'em and sell 'em on eBay.
Cap Marvel is good except for the hands. Haven't seen the variant yet.
Beta Ray Bill is cool looking but extremely limited in movement.
Wasp (black) has a crappy looking head and no articulation in hands - looks like the same body as Spider Woman but doesn't have the lurching look. Actually stands pretty good. Thinking of trying to make a Black Widow custom out of her.
Haven't opened the Iron Man Thor-Buster - fighting with the urge to list on eBay.
Moon Knight is definitely the best figure in the bunch even if he is just a resculpt of Bullseye with a Deadpool head. I just have the regular one (see variant rant above). His hood and cape are way better designed than the Task Master or Doc Doom. I could see a lot of custom work being done with this MK.
M.O.D.O.K. is cool looking but he don't do much - but then he's pretty much just a head in a floating chair. Apocalypse and the Sentinel BAFs were the best so far IMHO.
Then...
Found a Wasp Red Variant at the T-R-Us (unbelievable!) but haven't opened her yet. She looks better than the standard issue Wasp - face is a million times better but looks like the same body.
Let's face it; Marvel pulled the line from ToyBiz before they put this out so you can't expect them to do their best work. I haven't been too impressed with most of the prelim pics I've seen from Hasbro either. Planet Hulk looks like the best fig in their first salvo. But the Annihilus could be cool.
I wanted to get Beta Ray because he's just so cool and a Moon Knight for a custom. I think I can use Iron Man for a robot custom I want to do to!
