Just trying out photobucket to see if I get it right and thought I might as well wack a group shot of my thundercats to date, two more to go!!!
Here's the final few wips I took for Nappa, it's been pointed out that the "belt" I gave him should actually be a tail (Curse my lack of DBZ Knowledge) So I'm currently adding a sculpted tail instead of the belt I gave him.
To be honest, I'm not a DBZ fan, this one is getting made for a mate who's into it. I'd really advise against using Zangief, his joints are terrible to begin with but as soon as you start dismantling and sanding, they get even worse, most of the work has been strengthening those joints, I used a mixture of a metal rod, which I think came from the Hulk classics abom I used on whiplash. Screws to make some of the plugs stronger and some pegs from other figures, just gotta find ones that fit but yeah........ don't use Zangief!!
Dude! Love this. Great choice for the base. I need a zan's for some work I want in the future. Hey, what do you use for joint pegs? Metal rods? Where you get'em?
Sooooo, here's the most recent project I've been working on, he's Nappa from DBZ. Not usually my cup of tea but I was looking for a custom to make from the Zangief base and a friend suggested Nappa, he looked out of my comfort zone so of course I agreed.....
Start of the process, dismantled to start sanding and protecting the joints.
Joints all sanded down and a start on the head, the joints on the base figure took a whole buttload of re working, they were bad to begin with but sand some off and you're destined for floppy joint city, they were tightened up with a mix of superglue, figure packaging and plastic string.
First shot at the head, didn't look right
Resculpted head, did half at a time as I got sick of knocking sculpt I'd already done, thus having to redo said sculpt.
Here's where I'm at now, the primer revealed a lot more sanding needed doing. Actually my first time using primer, thought I'd give it a go and make my own mind up on the need for it. Never used it before but I've never had any of the so called problems that happen from not using primer, I usually just give the figure a good wash and a light sanding.
Cheers bud, he was a pretty easy one, the paints were definitely the hardest part. I have a feeling I've missed some wips out but ho hum, here's the wips for Whiplash haha wips for whiplash............wips for whiplash!!!, I slay me
A shot of the rough test of parts for fit etc.
The sculpted parts of his head, done to make his head look a lil bigger.
OK I've totally neglected this thread for a while now, think I've missed 2 or 3 customs worth of WIPs but I guess I'll start again with my two most recent works, for now. Here's the WIP shots of Maxi - The Dandy of the South Seas. Here's the completed figure http://www.figurerealm.com/customfigure ... w&id=62361
Filling in the peg holes and sculpting the pant cuffs
Heads and hands all sculpted up
Nearly finished
The dragon detail on his pants, this was fun to paint but hard to photograph, there's three shades of gold in there and two shades of silver.
I'll leave it at that for now, got to go cook tea but I'll be back with the WIPs for Whiplash soon.
Glad to help dude, you making the little Bear guy from the show then? I'm not familiar with it but a quick google and he showed up . I tried a couple of other things before settling on the morb icluding a foam ball and the little thing they put in cars of beer to make the bubbles, glad I settled on this though.
Love the work! And you've given me inspiration and some know-how.
I've had a Bleach figure sitting around for a few months now without a head and you gave me a fantastic idea and the steps to do it-Kuma in a traditional kimono like look.
Not gonna lie, I'm super pumped to pull this one off-and now I know how to make the head look good! Thanks!
OK bear with me (get it?...... Bear...... Bear ) I took tons of pics during the building of Kuma, all to keep the customer in the know and ensure he got exactly what he wanted, so without further ado, here's some wip shots for Kuma.
First throw together of all the parts. Didn't have the feet at this point and the arms needed more trimming.
First bit of sculpting laid on, the arms weren.t attached as the sculpt on the shoulder balls was drying.
The screws used to secure the face details. There's also two screws underneath his muzzle and his ears.
Size comparison and a bit more sculpting done, shooulder balls still drying so blu tack to hold the arms on and give an idea of length.
The foot assembly, made from 3 different figures.
A start on the Jinno head, twistie ties, drilled into the nostrils, had to sculpt in the gaps and it wasn't fun.
Progress on the head sculpt, I later decided the "helmet" was too far forward so trimmed it back.
The first paint job laid on, also revealed a little paint rub on the ab crunch. Later we agreed to go for a more detailed look on the paint.
It was also decided the bear head wasn't right. Moved the ears out, eyes down and completely resculpted the muzzle.
The sculpt work on Buzz off's chest is simply magnificent!!! Really awesome job!!!! I am looking at your other Motu wip's and I really can't wait to see the finished product.
Cheers Pock, me toom they're always my favourite to work on. So much detail just waiting to be exploited , wonder if they're up for changing his name? Good to see you around dude!!
Just thought I'd throw the graveyard together and get a quick snap to share. My current WIPS. There's actually a lot less here than I usually have on the go, quite pleased with the reduction.
First off to check the original Wip shots for Jango they're way back on page 29. Here are the final shots I took of Jango after all the sculpting and all the sanding and all the sculpting and all the sanding, and all the scul ........ you get the idea
Been some time since I finished this one, just not had the chance to upload my Wips but here they are, progress shots for The Icon Sting in his most iconic look, now if only he'd take off that damn suit and get back to being a bad 4ss
Cheers Yami, yeah the "Thwip" hand was a total pain to resculpt but worth it so he can hit those web slinging poses. However much of a pain that hand was though, this one was much more difficult to get it to look right
Holy Geez, that looks AMAZING! As does mine! Can't wait. I put together a pressure pot. Ordering supplies thos week on hopes of getting Ludo Casted to make the sculpt stronger. As well as the 200x casts. Stinkor should at least be in the ship. Trying for Hordak and still working on the Marley figure.
Great job on that one, matching the poses and going beyond what the regular articulations allow. Good job on the Fury, looks straight out of a bizarre 60s show.

But I want a zangeif?! Lol!

I recently sold those cats, plan to redo the whole set at some point using new techniques and materials I've learnt / acquired.
Did you end up sculpting around the entire Morb head or did you only do the bear details?
