Tim 121RVC's customs (update 30th March)

Posted in Custom Workstation

When I started customizing G.I.Joe (the classic ARAH-line) in 2008 I did a repaint first.
A lot of G.I.Joe figures are very cool, but they lack a more realistic/useful paintjob. The usual story: I did like the original Range Viper, but the colours weren't exactly screaming jungle to me.

Recipe: Range Viper '90
I found inspiration for the camo in the common desert camo. I decided to try this in with green instead of tan/brown and I think it turned out pretty good.

Also changed his gear: replaced the original gun for Beach Head's, because that makes more sense to me for this trooper. I also got rid of the (too) big backpack and missile launcher, it's just too much stuff to carry around in the jungle. Now he looks like this in the grass:

These are all excellent, but please remember, the workstation is for work in progress pictures only. I'll let it slide this time but please, completed projects in the showcase only. They are good enough!!

Il Nero was made around the same time as He-Man. The figure itself isn't that special, just a headswap and a repaint of those existing parts. Most of the work went into that suitcase:

Head: Monkeywrench '85
Torso: Headman '92
Arms: Headman '92
Waist: Headman '92
Legs: Headman '92

Briefcase: Bullhorn '90 (modified with Green Stuff + Mainframe's CPU handle)
Gun: Bullhorn '90 (modified)
Grip: Muskrat '88
Bipod: S.A.W.-Viper '90
Magazines: Marauder Inc.
Knife: unknown
Pistol: Mutt '84

Bio:
Il Nero got his name because his disguises are always dark colored and he always works at night. He's originally from Italy and worked as a mafia hitman. Was very succesful in his "job" and earned himself the infamous nickname and a flawless reputation through the whole Italian underworld. Therefore his distrusting bosses wanted to get rid of him, because they thought he might switch to competitive clans for bigger money. Of course, that could make themselves appear on his obituary. Il Nero noticed he got redundant and quickly escaped from Italy to the US. He offered his services there for the highest bidder, which became Cobra. No one knows what he really looks like, he always has a different look on every occasion. Excellent man of disguises, knows how to blend into the crowd, sneak up to his target(s) and takes him/them out.

Working notes:
The Bullhorn gun was a fantastic feature of the original figure. Very cool the way you could take it out of the backpack and assemble it to a sniper rifle. It was a pity it didn't have a proper grip for the figure to hold it. That's how I came up with this custom. I added a grip, bipod and magazine to make it look like a real sniper rifle. But a hitman cannot rely on his rifle only, so I gave him a pistol with silencer and a knife too. Now the challenge was to make it all fit into the backpack and turn it into a briefcase. It took me quite a few hours (more than painting the figure itself), but I'm very happy with the result.

He-man was about my third custom or so. First time I used Greenstuff:

Head: Ken Masters '93 (red)
Body: Big Boa '87 (modified)
Arms: Big Boa '87
Waist: Croc Master '87 (modified)
Upper legs, upper part of lower legs: Big Boa '87
Lower part of lower legs: Ice Viper '87
Axe: Dreadnok Battle Axe '88, Snake Eyes '89 Nunchuk and some ninja sword handle (modified)

At that point I painted the upper leg parts separately so you can see that line. I still like the custom though.
