These are pics of my Frankensteined Beast Man. As you can see I used SMC Venom's torso but I used the original 200X Beast Man's abs. I dremeled the abdominal section of the Beast Man and with fixit sculpt sculpted the torso and the ab section together. They came together rather seamlessly, and is super sturdy. When I added Beast Man's harness there was a gap on either side that would not lay flat. So I took Creeper's fur and cut it in half and dremeled it to fit underneath the harness over both shoulders. It took a lot of dremeling and shaping to have it fit but I think it worked out well.
Then I base coated the whole figure in flat black.
Then I used dark brown, orange, red, and yellow paints. I then added the straps for his arms and legs last.
And toycrafterguy I really appreciate the offer for the shark hands but I tried the claw hands on Mer-man and it just didn't look right to me. I do remember that you asked me to paint something for you. I am settled in my new house so I can definitely do that for you if you are still interested. Please let me know. And thanks for the great comments as well.
Formally known as Crea-torX: Man, I think you do these awesome figures in your sleep by now! Not sure I am crazy about the hands though...but hey, that's just me. with that being said, I do however have the hands for DC Direct Green Lantern the SHARK. If interested, you can have them. The MIGHT be too small? I just see claws on his fingers. I don't want to sound like I am ripping him up OR YOUR WORK! Cause me not! (hm, sounds like a Russian space man?) Dude, You have such a menacing looking figure, clean cut nails doesn't fit. I have a Shark/Crab figure that the guy flaked out on me. (James Rose-do not take orders from him! He will piss you off!) not sure where to go with him. I have Fix-it to his feet and neck, but other than that I would like your opinion what to do next with him. He was to be a Turtle's villain and then a villain for the JLA. I have him posted tonight or tomorrow.
ONCE AGAIN, I mean no offence...I still have Beastman on screen saver!
Normally I take breaks when I run into a problem and at that point it dawns on me to take Wip pics. But this custom came together rather swimmingly ...um pardon the pun, so that is why I only took this one Wip pic. Anyways I thought I would go into detail of how I made it. I guess I will start with the head. Using an exacto knife I sliced of the fins off the sides of the ML Abomination and superglued it onto Parasite's. I then took Trigon's head dress thingy sliced it in half and glued them to each for arms. I looked through my fodder bin and Skallox tendril thingys and a Brood leg. Parts of the Brood leg look just like coral to me so I cut those parts off and glued them to the wrists. I liked the skull on the Skallox tendrils so I cut it off and glued it to the wrist as well. I like the idea that it looked as if there were living organisms co-habitating on Mer-man's body much like in real ocean life. I cut the shins off the original 200x Mer-man and added the joints from the Parasite figure. Lastly I cut off Parasite's toes and sculpted on the fins also from the Mer-man. Oh yeah I also added magnets to his hands and inside his trident so he can actually hold it. Painted and sealed him and he was done. Thanks for viewing and I hope I was not to long winded.
Yes I used the 12" Repulsor Power Iron man for the base. I think I bought it at Target on clearance many moons ago, so I don't think it was a walmart exclusive. And Yes I did add articulation to the inner thighs. I dremeled out the old joint that only allowed forward and backward movement and added a ball joint ( I think I got it from the Iron Monger arm ball joint) so he can move his legs in and out as well as forward and back. If you look really close you can see that the ball joint is gray. It wasn't the greatest solution but it did allow for him to take a wider stance. thanks for the kind comments.
And thanks to Firefly as well, I really appreciate the very cool comments.
did you manage to finish him??? curious on what he look like???

Hey NeCrollector, I am glad you enjoyed the Wip's of the Beetle. I am such a bonehead I should of sent these pics to you a long time ago, but it never occurred to me. Sorry dude. Thanks so much for the kind words. I pride myself on my imagination and vision because of my lack of artistic talent, these are my most useful talents in customizing. And I am sure you will get accustomed to this part of the hobby in no time and when you do with your painting skills it's Super-stardom for you my friend.
Hey supra! Thanks for posting these WIP pics...particularly of the Beetle! I had to save a copy of those 3 Beetle pics unto my laptop...it's awesome to see how he was "created"...as if I didn't love him enough already, these pics make me appreciate him even more than I already do. Dude, after seeing all these WIP pics, I gotta say that you're a MASTER at frankenstein-ing figures together and making all the parts harmoniously work together. If it wasn't for these cool pics of Beastman, Trapjaw, RamMan, Beetle and the others, one can easily loose sight of the amount of work and sculpting you put into each of your masterpieces. This is one part of the hobby that I'm starting to get into & it's not easy...I have a deep amount of respect for customizers that have the patience and foresight to create a unique work of art from other figure parts.
you chose really spectacular pieces to make trapjaw. I also do not feel that sculpting is one of your weak points, you have been making masterpieces with these motu characters. I really loved the grimlock lower jaw, looks so much meaner. keep up the phenomenal work and showing the process, its amazing.
Hey shapp, I use tamiya flat black. Right now I just use a brush but I am working towards airbrushing it on. Hopefully it will be smoother that way. By the way sorry for not replying to your post before about possibly trading for a base body. I just saw the posting, I don't know how I missed it before. But I have those figures so thanks anyways.
This was my initial vision for TrapJaw, I didn't want him to be super buff so I used ML Cyclops torso, FO Sabertooth right arm, Techno Spawn right arm and part of the Spawn figure as the shoulder pad but he looked terrible. His legs and lower body was just too big so I had to find a bigger torso and better arms.
So I decided on a wrestler's torso (sorry I don't know which wrestler he was) but that meant I had to sculpt his harness and straps on his chest. I had already sculpted quite abit on his thighs and resculpted the top part of Cyborg's lower legs. And sculpting is a real weak point so it was kinda of daunting for me.
Here I replaced the wrestler's left arm with LCBH Stryker's and 200x trapjaws wrist and hand and decided I wanted the upper part of his robotic arm to look more humaniod so I used Superpatriot's upper arm When I took apart Trapjaw's head to replace his lower jaw's with grimlock's I wanted to retain the snapping jaw motion but it was really hard for me to modd grimlock's jaw so I had to settle for just superglueing it on and having his jaw stationary. Then I based coated his head black first to get his look right.
When all the sculpting was done I based coated the rest of him black and prepped him for paint. Trap Jaw has a lot of dark colors so I wanted what bright colors he had to really stand out . So I made his torso and left arm bright blue to offset his other dark colors.
Thanks for all the positive responses guys. I am really starting to enjoy all the steps that customizing a figure takes, before I would rush through and try to finish a figure because I hated the look of an incomplete custom. But you guys have really helped me embrace all the steps and see the beauty in the before and after pics. Every custom I make from now on I am going to slow down and take more WIP pics.
@Darththomas There have been a lot of guys on here that inspire me to make MOTU customs but your MOTU customs really stand out as some of the best so I am extremely humbled that I can inspire you in any way.
@Redrebelcustoms and NeCrollector Thanks a lot for the comments. I love your works aswell , that's the great thing about this site there is a lot of positive support and we all know that here on the Realm inspiration is a two way street.
I had to see what all the fuss about Beast Man was about. Breathtaking even unpainted. This is a masterpiece in the making and I am in awe of your process bro! Genius!
Thanks so much to Galactape, bobtheodd, darththomas, cosmicfantasycustoms, and especially countpinchula for all the kind words and help posting pics. I am going to Wondercon so I will not be home all weekend but I will try to fix the pics when I get back. I just finished my Trapjaw so maybe I will post some WIP's of him. but I just wanted to write really fast and express my gratitude for all the feedback. You guyz all ROCK!!!
man your work is just so phenomenal and has inspired me to do make a v3 of beastman. I still have not completed my 2nd version, just needs painting. but your work just sent my head reeling for the epicness it was. can't wait for more and do change your codes to img codes to allow viewing in the post.
also can't wait to see both darth and count make their beastman, everyone is so inspirational on this site. keep rocking you guys.
gotta say man, EPIC! I may have to sue you thought cause I was using the same idea for a beast man recipe! but dude...for real...awesome work. wish it had an ab crunch but I love it. great execution and amazing paint job just get those links switched around so from htlm to IMG!
