Custom WorkstationCurrently I'm working on an Inhumanoid's diorama featuring a custom Granok. Granok is pretty much finished and I created a special sceptre for him. The first few pics are of him and the sceptre at my workstation (the floor). Though I've painted miniatures for years this is my first custom toy. Found him in an old trunk of mine and decided he needed an update. The eyes always fascinated me as a child so I knew from the beginning they were going to be lit. I've learned a lot in a short time and realize there is still much more to learn.
A few notes to the custom. He now has an LED to light his eyes through his neck that way I could paint over the light receptor on his head. There's a switch on his back and the batteries are accesible though I still have to make a cover. The circuit is done nicely and I cut the battery compartment from a dollar store book light to give the circuit a more professional look.
I sculpted in the old slits that were used to transform him. The paint used was from the Reaper line of paints. I used the 3 tones of Silver as well as a wash of Rainy Grey to mute the shininess just a little.
The sceptre is a custom sculpt that I'm toying with. The base is made to look like a pile of rocks he's resting it on. This was done because my original idea was to place a battery compartment in there and run wires up the staff to light the quartz from below. Might still do that but the backside of the quartz is painted with Reaper's Sparkling Amythest. More than likely if I light the display I will clean the paint off the crystal.
Currently I am toying with making him a crown. I am just not seeing it though so might drop the idea. Next weekend I'll be starting the diorama. I've already selected the stones I want to use just gotta set up the base.

Marvel on eBay
I don't recognize the black cape. Was it from the Toy Biz line? I'm not very familiar with the Toy Biz line of DC figures. The cape came with a huge lot of Super Powers I recently purchased.
If anyone has a loose DCUC Sinestro Corps Batman, can you send me pics of the back?
The Batman I mentioned is going to be a repaint with limited alteration. I'm working on making him a Sinestro Corps. member. I've got a few layers of Gloss black laquer down now. The time consuming part is the sanding then reapplying. This is the first time I'm using laquer on a fig and think it might be the last for a time. I love the control I'm used to with acrylics but I can't deny I love how lacquer lays against the fig. No brush strokes at all, but if I'm not careful it bubbles. The worst spots for it to bubble are in the grooves especially at his neck and head. If I do use lacquer I will probably use it for a base and spray with rattle can. Need a compressor before I start thinking about air brushing but that would be wonderful.
They applied so much glue to the Super Powers line that I couldn't figure out how to open him up without too much damage. I tried heating him up to loosen the glue then I tried boiling him. Nothing seemed to give. If I could have gotten him apart it would have made painting much simpler. What I did do was to dremel his belt until the area in front was flush with his abdomen just like in the produced Sinestro Corps. Batman. Also sanded down the pouches and such along the belt until it was flat. Because the access glue from production had bled out I sanded all the grooves until they were flush. I'll get pics up as soon as I get a coat of yellow down. I'm going with an acrylic Chromatic Yellow. Here's crossing my fingers that the yellow will be what I expected.
From what I read the way I can layer different paints is first lay down lacquer, then any enamels, then acrylic.
If anyone has 3 3/4 or 4 inch line green lantern accessories they want to trade let me know. I'll start posting pics for my trade thread today.
The hair sits so snuggly against the armor that I haven't had to glue the two pieces back together.
I want to find an MU Ultron for the arms and legs. I cut the original pelvis too short and went out and bought another copy of the source. Not much of a problem as its line is clearanced, but I did have to hit up three Walmarts until I found it. Thanks to the tutorials on this site I was able to remove the legs and split Kitty's pelvis with almost no damage. The pelvis was thickly glued though and gave me a hard time.
I also plan to vary the heads a little. The idea for the quartz one is that he's a berzerker similiar to the Hulk. What I wanted from the beginning is Red Hulk BAF left and right arm to sculpt over but that is cost prohibitive. Feel free to let me know any tips I might overlook, sage advice, constructive criticism or ideas on parts.

June 5th update: I'll try again to post pictures later but I am excited to say my MU Psylocke arrived today. I love the blue paint they used on it but don't like the application so she might be opened soon. Currently I'm trying to get an ML Spiral so that I can make a Kali figure. And MU Kitty Pryde is waiting for the sculpey. I've a surprise fig in mind just deciding on whether to commit to vintage original of the piece in mind or to give her an update and then to what extent.
June 6th update: Sorry for being a board hog, I've been trying hard to get my post count up enough to post pics. I'll do more work on the project over the weekend.
