Current Projects (picture heavy)

Posted in Custom Workstation

OK so I decided that half the fun of making custom figures is just that, making them! So I wanted to start a thread (my first go at an ongoing thread too) that showed basically what's on my desk, what I'm working on, what's coming up next etc. because a lot of thought and planning goes into these figures and all you guys usually get to see is the end product.

So to start... My current project is a Mk2 exosuit to follow the Mk1 I've already uploaded. The model in this is a ThreeA figure (not my creation).

It's basically constructed from foam/elastic/rubber tubing... but wait there's more! All the small silver circles on him are magnets because next I'm going to be building different modular parts that can attach to these magnets, so while the basic body is done you'll get to see me construct all the extras.

Also on my table at the minute are this dude

(This is an early design for a custom Ultron figure, more work on this one soon.)
And this beast

(This one is the first in what's going to be my own concept sinister six which I'm very excited about starting, just hope it turns out how I'm seeing it in my head haha)

Anyway hope this is a good start to the thread and I should be posting more very soon.
Please let me know if I've done anything wrong here or posted this in the wrong place.

Hello again all! So I have tried updating prior to this but Photobucket was messing up and other things but I'm back now. Ok so this is probably going to be the last update on this figure. The sculpting and accessories are complete, all that needs doing now is the painting and I don't really paint in stages so it's hard to keep updating with pics on the painting so yeah this will probably be the last update and you'll have to check FigureRealm to see the finished figure.

So first I'll show what I tried uploading last time.

First up is Mikey's shell! I started by putting tinfoil on the back of the figure and sculpting over that so that I could get a support that was contoured to the body but removable so I could stil;l work on it. I then added more sculpt to get the complete piece.

Next up is his ninja/samurai hat which he has improvised from a trash can lid. I wanted it to be removable so I added a magnet into the head then sculpted over it to hide it. I then added a magnet to the trash can lid (just a cheap toy lid) and there you have it.

And some shots of his sculpted sneakers. They're a bit rough but it's my first time sculpting shoes so I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

Ok so that was the first update and now the last. Just some shots of the painted shell and hat.

So guys thanks for the checking all of this out and I hope you like the finished product, it should be on FigureRealm very soon so keep an eye out. I shall see you all again soon when I have decided on a new project to start, peace.

Hello all. Another little update, nothing drastic just some extra details.

First is some extra leg armour.

Added some buckles to the armour straps on his arm.

Added the flowing pieces at the back of his bandanna.

And began work on his sneakers.

And that's all for now, stay tuned for the next update, peace.

Oh and I solved the huge picture problem. I had tried resizing the pictures before but I just hadn't realised how much I had to shrink them so they didn't come out huge. Just a little tip incase anybody else was having that problem, I resized mine to height - 400 and they've uploaded at a nice size <-- just for reference.

Hello again all, another update. Nothing special just finished off Mikey's weapons.

First off is some WIP shots of Mikey's sword (which was Leo's sword...at least the blade from Leo's sword anyway) it's made from styrene tubes and a piece of plasticard. I sanded one edge of the plasticard to give the sword a blunt and sharp side.

And lastly a shot of all the weapons complete.

P.S. Does anybody know why my pictures keep coming out mega huge? I don't mind them being big but I'm having to crop my pictures because half of it keeps getting cut off when I post it. And as always thanks for looking I'll be back soon with more updates, peace.

@Automatauntaun Thanks man I appreciate it and I had already finished the hammer by the time I posted these updates but thanks for the offer regardless.

Hello again all and sorry for the gap between posts here. I'm starting a new project and I am determined to photograph and share every step towards it's completion even if it kills me! So my new project is a concept TMNT Mikey to fit into my Reaper series (the backstory will come when I post the finished thing to FigureRealm) but essentially he's a much more mature Mikey, he's been through hell and he's ready to kick some a**!

Ok so I decided on a superior spiderman base for the massive amount of articulation and started by taking him apart and sanding down all the joints. Then the fun part.

That was the first stage. All of the extras are done with milliput. I added indents to the pack of the thighs so as not to hinder the poseability of the base figure.

For the second stage I decided to work with green stuff as I find it a lot easier to work with especially on smaller/finer details and it also has a bit more flexibility which will help when he comes to holding his weapons.
Anyway that's as far as I've got up to now but I will be updating again soon so stay tuned and thanks for looking, peace.

Hello and welcome to another update. Sorry for the delay between posts. While I've been waiting for some new figures to arrive for my sinister 6 I decided to make a Thor figure (don't have one in my own collection). He was just a quick project to keep me busy but also gave me a chance to work on my sculpting skills. I didn't get many pictures but here's what I did get

As you can see I've sculpted his hair, beard, collar and wraps. The hair didn't really come out the way I wanted it to. I did it in separate spike like shapes instead of one whole piece but I was also worried about it hitting the neck during posing so it's a bit short. Not the best but I guess you learn from your mistakes right? I'm really happy with how the collar came out though, I wanted it to show his suit actually ending at the neck and I think I achieved that. The wraps are just flattened sausages wrapped around his arms/legs.

This photo doesn't really show a lot but this is how his hammer started out, a block of milliput/green stuff. After sanding, dremmeling etc it looks a lot better now but you'll have to see the uploaded figure to judge that for yourself.

And lastly!...

My replacement Green Goblin finally arrived! So now I can carry on with him too I do have to note though that this is a bootleg version I got off Ebay but apart from the tacky paint on his legs this figure is a lot better than my original (I'm hoping that's just me being unlucky) no loose joints or anything so all is a go on my concept sinister 6 Green Goblin!

Anyway thanks for looking and stay tuned for more updates.

@Automatauntaun The red circles are just the bumps on the beetle base body sanded down a bit to give a flat top and the white circles are styrene piping. Thank you for the kind words friend. I love using craft foam it's really versatile stuff. My scorpion figure should be done soon so I'll be moving onto the next member.

The latest on my projects.
So my Scorpion custom is practically done, just need to put all the bits together and upload him but first I'll share my last WIP photos here.

First up is the harness and gauntlets all wired up and some extra paint details on the harness

And the tail blade, no photos of it after painting sorry

His painted top and pants and the whole outfit ready to be put on

So like I said this guy is practically done so he should be uploaded tomorrow afternoon if anybody is interested in checking him out and keep an eye out on here because I'll be starting work on the next member... (no idea who I'm going to do next yet haha) Thanks for looking, see you all next time, peace.

Love everything I'm seeing here. And yes I was asking how you achived uniformity between all the little circles all over ultron. Was it small piping or sculpt. I really ovr everything your doing here. I use fact foam for a lot myself but not to this degree. Really great work. Can't wait to see what's next.

-Latest Update-

Hello again, been working more on my sinister six Scorpion and got a few photos to share

Firstly his tail harness

And next some shots of his gauntlets and a start on his fabric outfit

As usual his harness and gauntlets are being constructed from craft foam, styrene tubes and rubber tubing/wire. The tail has some metal wire running through the centre of the rubber tubing to make it poseable. See you again soon with another update but I'm really liking how this sinister six project is turning out.

@Automatauntaun Thanks for the support dude really appreciate it

Today I've been working on the attachments for my Mk2 Exosuit. First is the finished blast shield with clear plastic viewing port

And next is a wrist mounted computer with holographic display (I was going for a holographic display, hope it looks like that to other people)

The wrist computer like much of my other doohickies is made from craft foam and sheet styrene

And lastly some updated shots of my Goblin armour

The torso armour is practically complete minus painting details etc. Next comes the gauntlets however the arms on my GG are very very loose so I've ordered a new one but sadly the gauntlets will have to wait until that arrives

Anyway that's all for today, see you when I have another update, peace.

Here's the latest on my projects.

I seemed to have got ahead of myself and finished my Ultron custom, I still need to get the hang of taking WIP photos of my projects as I'm doing them but anyway here's a quick teaser and the full thing should be uploaded to Figure Realm soon!

And some shots of my Green Goblin's armour, really looking forward to getting this one completed!

Began painting it

I love doing spine detail on armour haha.

See you all again soon for the next update! Peace.

Sorry but I'm not sure I understand the question? Do you mean have I used piping to make sure all of the ports are the same size?

Ok so not a massive update but something is better than nothing.
First off I've started on the first attachment for my exosuit, it's going to be a blast shield. Some sheet styrene with craft foam extras.

Next up I've added more to the Ultron custom. I've just added some ports which will eventually house wires/cables and also adjusted the bumps that were all over the beetle base body to make them look more like lights

And lastly just some early shots of some armour I'm making for my concept Green Goblin

Like I said it's not a lot but hopefully I'll have much more to show next time I post.
