Daredevil - How to do the insignia?

Posted in Custom Workstation

my almost complete repaint of my FO Daredevil. Only thing that is holding me up is agonizing over how to do the DD insignia on his chest. I tried a decal using clear testors inkjet decal paper and it didn't work out cuz his chest is too bumpy.

I'm trying to keep it true to the comic with the DD in the center of his chest.

any suggestions?

I'm really happy with the way he turned out. I did a base coat of tamiya black and then a coat of tamiya red but it wasn't turning out the way I wanted so I slathered him up in a few coats of citadel blood red. I gotta say I really like the way the citadel paints apply. like Doc said - it is pretty hard to get a bad paint job using citadel. his exposed face is tamiya flat flesh which is my fave tamiya so far.

Hmmmm.... I will go check these out. I found some letter stencils that will help if the writing implement has a super fine point.

I appreciate all the suggestions from y'all! Keep 'em coming.

Pigma Micron #.005-#8.0 archival ink pens. You can get them at Michaels.

LOL, I think sculpey would work better, then you don't even have to use paint at all if it's black sculpey.

Use sculpy...That way it will fill in the chest. Just let it set up for a while beofre shoving it on. VP?..Your steady hand?....what is your other one really, really shakey?

The thing is that you have to look at this as painting a picture, not writing letters. Don't look at the symbol as letters, look at it like a bat-symbol or a X-sign. You're drawing two hemi-spheres, not two "D's". Well that helps me anyway

I'm sure I'll end up trying one of these - just nervous cuz my handwriting is so bad. I'll just have to strap some on and do it.

I personally either use just my steady hand and a thin brush or a sharpie.

How about a toothpick and some black paint?

well I hadn't thought of that... hey wait a minute!

I had high hopes for the decal which when first applied looked good but as it dried it got cloudy. grrrrrr

I'm on that trail as I picked up one a few days ago but wanted to see if there might be any other ideas.

does anyone here use stencils? if so what kind of material and tips for cutting it?
