Shadow Khan Voi WIPs

Posted in Custom Workstation

Hello I am new here and I wanted to post a few of my works in progress. First up is Red Guardian made from a Legends Show Down Cap. I still have to touvh up the face, do the belt buckle, and modify the sheild. I made the crest using sheet styrene and I shaved the wings and most all of the scales. This is my first Show Down custom I started it a week ago...

This is my second attempts at a Show Down custom. For those of you who may not know "Big Brain" is Reeed Richards from the the Fantastic Four as he is called in "What if? #6" where the FF get different powers. Anyws by the end of teh story he ends up dooms armour which he modifies to the cloth portion to FF colors. He Turns up again in during the Time Quake story line in Waht IF? 35-39. I took a litter bit of artistic licens in making it a touhch more like more recent FF uniforms such as belt compartments. I still need to touch up the face, belt and the "4" is not yet permanantly attached. The "pouch" is a .50 cal ammo box form my military parts box and the "caution decal" as well.

Anyone thing the "4" is too big...

Now here is my War MAchine who I work on while the paint is dryting on my other projects...lol

I still have to finish the boots and the belt compartments. Right now he only has the buckle...

Some comics have the ridges wide in the rear and somskinny...I only saw the skinny ones after I went wide...

I am going to use a Gundam beam sabre for the right arm energy blade...

Those are 1/35 scale m-16 barrels...

Styrene strip, bent wire from toy pacaging, gweeblies from the parts box.I could have made the "laser sight" smaller but I liked it big...

These will be his shoulder mounted weapons. A modified 1/35 scale TOW Misslie Launcher and a gas can that I am convering to a missle box. Both are Tamiya from the parts box.

Shadow Khan's "Washed" Ultimate Iron Man

Since Demonsight brought up th subject of Ultimate Ironman's hands I figured I'd post pics of mine which I purchased this past Saturday. I performed a wash on it Sunday night to bring out the detail. The black "smudges" you see on his grey portion were already there and they are quite stuck there. I don't know if they were going for a "worn" smoked look of it it is just a poor wash. I beleive it was the latter. The wash was not very dark at all in the seems but shows up as "smears" every where else.

I was never very fond of the this helmet design lloks too much like MewTwo or some kind of alien. I think out lining the "brow/nose ridge" really improved him making him more "aggressive" looking. I do like the young well defined face, plus it's Tony Stark's whole head not just his face like on the other ML (with the exception of the Hulk Buster).

Had to wash those feet thrusters. There is a lot of detail though it seems too soft and chunky in my opinion.

Here is one of those notorious hands Demonsight was speaking of.

The hands would be better if the barrel of the cannon on top of his wrist didn't keep you from fully raising his hand to a "repulser blast" pose. Only way for it look proper is to pose his hands as if he is firing them "underhanded" like Spidey does his webs.

Now that I have given him a wash he is quickly becoming one of my faves even if he is an ugly bugger. The black wash really brings out the detail in his red chrome.

I started doing similar with my Thor Buster a few weeks ago but I haven't finshed becasue the wash also started to bring out imperfections in the gold plastic. This is where the smudging effect comes from in the Ultimate Iron Man. That maybe the reason why they used such a light wash...

I am going to put a drop of amber (Model Master signal light yellow) in his palm repulsers. Comments...

Yes, it's actually a well detailed figure, but it comes is painted with a semi-gloss orange and a very light wash. There is noting I would change about the figure sculpt itself, except for the lack of wrist rotation (same problem with the ShowDown Hulk too). I may pick up another and scar his face like it was after his fight with Wolverine or make a Fantastic Five version with the silver arm. Just not sure how to do the arm...

While I was washing Iron Man, I began doing a wash on my Showdown Thing.

The wash was a big improvement. The color I used is burnt umber. My favorite color for a lot of my military vehicle washing.

Same fig different angle. I still need to do at least one more wash on him.

The is for comparison. I haven't done his back yet.

They have two-packs of Thing/Spidey and Hulk/Wolvie at k-mart for $4 last time I checked. any ideas what I could with extras of these guys if I picked them up?

Good luck darkening the silver on WarMachine's armor, clear black would be perfect if you can find it...

(and moderators have been around for a LONG time here, Cap just recently added titles.)

I just figured out by accident a minute ago when noticed "regulator" in light grey under the name.lol
My current plan to paint War Machine is a coat of silver or aluminum over all, and then use maybe tamiya smoke (I guess that is as close as I can get to clear black) over the boots, gauntlets, ect. I have seen similar done with an iron Man fig using clear red and clear yellow over silver.
Any painting suggestions for War Machine?

Now that's funny because I think large figures are harder! lol
Basically the first two were practice. After teh star on Guardians chest began driving me nuts I decited do somthing simple to cleans my pallat so to speak. On these two I was able test out techniques like paints and paint stripping. I stripped both Guardian and WM using brake fluid, old modeling trick that supposedly works on most rattle can paint and brush paints including Model Master, but I was not sure It would work on figures. It does, though some paints seem tougher than others. The Iron Man fig was disassembled and dipped in it and strangely the right shoulder was totally unaffected by the preocess and the right hand only had limited success. I figure that a different batch of paint was used on these two parts...

Hey Kyle, forgive my lack knowledge what's a "regulator"?lol
