How paint black symbiote Spidey

Posted in Custom Workstation

I just recently bought a loose Marvel Legends Icons Spider-Man from ebay. I then thought, "hey, maybe the variant of this toy will be the black Spidey." Well, unfortunately, I came to find that the variant was just a somewhat boring unmasked version of mine. I have never modded any toys and thought it would be cool to try to make my Spider-Man a black one. Well, not a really big mod, but since I'm new to it I was just wondering if anyone has any painting suggestions such as what types of paint work best for painting on the type of plastic used and maybe even exact shades of black and silver to use. I plan on using a silvery paint of some sort with a glittery effect to it for the eyes to make them appear as they do in the movie. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated and looked in to. Thanks for any help!

Cool, this is exactly what I needed. Brands of paint and what not, thanks guys. I think I'm going to go get some brushes and stuff and some black Testors paint right now and get started with the black paint.

well use acrylic paint for sure. They work best. Citadel, Testors (I use), and any others that I don't know, they work good. I like the idea of the movie spidey. If your were doing the secret wars Spidey I would've done a lot of sanding, but the movie Spidey is just as good. well I hope this helps for you.

Welcome to the forums.

In any case, for painting ALWAYS use Acrylic paint, If you use enamel based paint you risk the chance of melting the figure and the paint won't settle right, it will always be sticky. I use Testors brand paints and those have worked well for me, you can pick them up at Hobby Lobby, local art stores and occasionally at Walmart.

Next it depends on how you want the coloring to look. If you want it to look more like a cloth suit, id use Flat Black. Likewise, if you wanted the suit to look more like a symbiote suit, use a Gloss black. I know that most paint sets carry a silver paint that is sparkly, I don't remember the exact name though. For eyes or anything else white, it would depend on how you like it. Flat white would give it more of a cloth look while Gloss white would make it look more like living flesh or as if his eyes were glowing.

Hope that helps!!!
