Hasbro ML1 just got rarer?

Posted in Action Figure Chatter

Some of you may already know I work for Target Stores. Yesterday, all the remaining Hasbro ML1 figs were collected up by the sales floor team leaders and shipped BACK to the distribution center. It looks like Hasbro prefers to regrind these figures for recycle rather than see them go clearance. This is very bad news for customizers, as it means that all of the first series figures are going to be harder to come by. I suspect that Kmart and Wlamart all got the same instructions but remain hopeful that thier teams are too lazy to actually follow those instructions and pull the figures. Never fails something like this comes right before a rent payday for me!

I've seen the WM Ex Surfer all over ebay. Sellers want stupid money for 'em - $15 - $25 + $10 S&H. Ridiculous.

I'm convinced that most sellers of the newer MLs being sold on ebay are Wal Mart employees that are just buying the cases as they come in the door.

The entire series is still pegged here, Iron man and all

I called around again to all the WM and the again didn't know what I was talking about.

I don't think they're rare but they sold out fast here. I haven't seen one in a long time. Hulk was the next thing. I just bought one of the last 2 at the Wal-Mart here. Banshee, Emma, Herc and X3 Beast are all plentiful though along with Diamond Emma and Silver Wolverine. I have yet to see the Wally World Surfer exclusive.

You can order Hulk and Iron Man direct from Hasbro.

So I'm out and about hunting some customizing supplies today and because the Target is a close neighbor to Michael's I go in to see if by some miracle they have gotten in any of the new Mattel DC S3 Bats line or possibly HB-ML2 and to my surprise the the ML pegs which have been empty for weeks are full.... of HB-ML1 figures!!!! WTF?!!!

And no new Bats... just a bunch of regular old Supermans... not even a Black suited one.

They vanished a my target last week and I figured this was the case. Usually what happens is the chain said they didn't want to carry them anymore and Hasbro agreed to replace them with the "hot new ones" they will be able to sell.
Hasbro now will reclaim these and yes they will clearance to a liquidator or keep for the website.
One Target in my area just got the ML2 today.
Remember there are 2 case assortments one with Thor, one without & the variant case. Each case is 8 figures just incase you count the figures on the pegs.
But KB has already had these for a month, so they are kinda old now.
Everyone else in So. Cal is clogged with the ser 1.
However I wanted a Planet Hulk & my Target ALWAYS plays games with us collectors, so today I got a Planet hulk and its probably been in the back as its a pink Annilus.

One of the Wallys in my town has a ton of the HB ML Wave 1 Emma, Banshee, Herc and Beast. They had a few Hulks last time I was there. No Ult Iron Mans that I could find.

It just doesn't make sense for Hasbro to say to Target - "Hey we'll buy back all your left over MLs so we can melt 'em down." That is not how business works. You gotta remember - Target bought those from Hasbro to sell. Very few manufacturers are going to give retailers their money back on something that didn't sell - that's the retailers problem to deal with.

I think Buzzy_Fret has something there. It's more likely that they are just being sold to another company like KB or Big Lots or Tuesday Morning that buys remaindered in bulk. Hopefully this means we'll be seeing them cheaper soon in discount stores.

those look good. will they be mroe expensive than the HML they are selling now? I like how companies rerelease the figures IMO that I didn't get a chance to get. My first ML was a Gambit so I started off late.

I think if they don't prove to be moneymakers Hasbro will just drop the line.

I just don't think that they are recalling all the ML Wave 1 figures to reclaim / recycle the plastic - can this even be done? You can still order any figure from the entire Hasbro series 1 direct from Hasbro. If they were going to recycle them for plastic why would they still offer them? Most likely Target is selling them to another dealer like KB Toys Outlet to blow out.

I think the Marvel Heroes Series 1 which, according to several web stores, is supposed to ship late June will be a HUGE moneymaker for Hasbro -

No they won't stop making them but watch them bump the size down to Star Wars scale

IF the Marvel Legends do go to the scale of the Star Wars figures, at least we can say "Hulk smash black man with red glowing sword". LOL

Hasbro is recovering all unsold HML1 figs to recycle them? How many more signs do they need before they realize they need to bump-up the paint-jobs on these things? Do you folks think Hasbro is going to quit making the ML series or improve the paint-qulaity of the figures?
