A Potentially Stupid Question

Posted in Custom Workstation

I'm looking to spruce up my ML Spider-Woman. I had good luck on my Wasp (meaning her body no longer looks like a 12 year-old girl) and so Spider-Woman is next. First things first: I need to get rid of those enormous hands. I have a set of Wasp arms, and I tried to pop the pins out of the wrist last night to no avail. It just wasn't working for me. I heated it up with a hair dryer to the point that it was hot to touch, but that pin wouldn't budge. My tool was swimming around the inside of the wrist, but that's it. I'm clearly doing something wrong.

Given that, I'm thinking it might be easier to take off the Spider-Woman arms at the bicep and swap the whole arm out instead. I was thinking of repainting most of the figure anyway, so it wouldn't be that much more work paint wise (provided I get foundation paint to go over the black, that is). Does that sound about right, or am I screwing up a blatantly easy process in this whole wrist pin popping adventure?

Well that makes sense. I just didn't want to accidentally rip it or I would have done that sooner. Thanks, Doc.

Game on!

Well, it doesn't have to be THAT flexible, just enough to have it pop-out, granted though, I think I have some dead nerve endings on my finger-tips

Might want to use something other than your fingers to pull, though - needlenose pliers or something. For the plastic to be flexable enough, it needs to be *hot*.

Heh, I posted a picture of what you're supposed to do somewhere on here, can't find it though >_<

What you have to do is heat the area until it's very flexible, then you can use your fingers to pry at one of the "flaps" to get one end of the rod out of there. You're not pushing on the rod at all, you're pulling on a part of the plastic so that an end of the rods pops out. You don't have to remove the rod completely, it's actually easier if you leave the other end inside the hole. Now slip-out the hand and slip-in the new hands. Then heat it up again if you have to and pop the free rod-end back into the plastic.

Found it!

There's no need to worry about tearing anything, if it's flexible enough then the rod-head should pop-out easily.

Aw man. I have the distinct feeling I'm going to feel like a fool very soon once I see how easy this is.

You don't even need a tool!

Okay, I found the movie maker, let me get some lights set-up and I'll see what I can do. I hate talking in videos, my voice su'cks, lol

That works to get them off the disembodied arms, but does little to help me remove the hands currently on Spider-Woman. The more I tihnk about it, the more I tihnk I'm just pop em off at the bicep/shoulder joint and call it a day.

If you're not wanting to keep the hands, just cut them off by carefully slicing through the ring bit surrounding the peg on both sides.

So.... Last night I tried boil and pop and got exactly the same results. My tool ends up swimming around the peg inside the arm, but NO movement on the pin itself. I have a feeling I'm about to destroy this arm if I keep this up. I don't know why this is proving so difficult for me. I"m actually quite brilliant and capable at most tasks.

Yeah, popping pins is blatantly easy Lee
