I'm using a Wasp for a custom and I actually opened up the upper torso and used my dremel, wire cutters and pure brute force to get the wings off. opening the torso also gave me a chance to do some extra sanding in the high risk rub areas.
I just pull them off. If they don't come off, I use wire cutters and cut at the base of the wings. then I use my dremel, sanding down the back til it's flush. I then fill the holes with Fixit Sculpt and then sand that. Sculpt any muscle, etc that you might have lost in cutting/sanding.
