Anyon tried chrome-plating plastic??

Custom WorkstationHi there,
I was curious about how to achieve a SHINY metallic look on a plastic surface.
I'm talking about really shiny and smooth, either gold or silver, finish on plastic. (Like mirror-smooth...)
Some research on the internet told me that there are companies that offer this service,
usually under the name of chrome-plating, and there are also kits available for this purpose-- but they are expensive!
Usually around $2000.
For the experienced customizers out there, if you wanted a shiny metallic finish, how do you go about achieving that effect???

So I talked to a tech support guy at Alsa Corp, the seller of Killer Chrome spray.
He said that if I want a shiny gold finish, I can use the Killer Chrome spray kit (do jet black coat, then chrome coat, then clear topcoat) to make the surface shiny silver, then add a candy yellow clear coat to make the surface look gold. Basically the same idea that Jin explains in the painting tutorial.
Fun stuff. I will try this sometime, when I can save up enough money to buy the Killer Chrome set....
Jin, I will take a look at the stuff you mentioned.
Cowboyink-- yeah, it looks like there are companies that offer this type of service, but you are right-- probably not worth the cost for what I'm interested in.
