a good sheap brand is Apple Barrel, which I know K&L uses, and their paint apps are outstanding! Give it a try! I use to use that too, just make sure to thin in a little for smoother paint apps.
I've tried Citadel, Model Master, Tamiya and Vallejo.
I like the Citadel and Model Master paints best so far.
Punstarr, I don't get it, the Vallejo Game Colors have the same kinda goofy names as the Citadel Paints. I have the Vallejo GC case and they're all named like Icky Green, Scar Red, Gore Red, Electric Blue, etc, - they use a lot of the same names as Citadel. The only one that has a common name is Primer White.
Actually thinking about selling my case of Vallejo paints.
Oh I see what you mean x_X Citadel was made/named so people who are into the Warhammer know exactly what paint to get to paint their stuff. It wasn't meant to be used by us customizers, it just happens to be good paint so we figured what the heck let's use it! It just takes a while to see what the "standard" colors are.
Meh. Tried it... it's ok. Just my opinion. I also didn't like how they name their colors. Where the heck is "Green" or "Red"?! It's all named after Warhammer stuff it seems.
I use Model Master, Citadel,& Tamiya. I'm experimenting with Vallejo right now to see how well it works. It just really depends on what colors I need, what kinda project, and whats available.
Maybe you should check out this helpful tutorial on Painting Customs in our Custom Showcase Tutorial section >

The tutorials were a HUGE help to me when I started out customizing a couple years ago.

In any case, it wasn't for me. Others may find a different experience, though.
The colors are set-up according to the rainbow spectrum in the store so there's no reason not to find the color you need.
Or Model Masters, that's cool too.
