What is the best paint to use?

Posted in Custom Workstation

Hi. I know this is a n00b question, but bare with me. I read in Jin's tutorial that Model Master Fantasy Acrylic paints are the best, but it seems that that line of paints has been discontinued. So what I'm wondering is what people use in place of those these days. And is there a place on-line where I can browse colors before purchasing? Last question(for now); what is a good light Caucasian skin tone paint? Thanks a bunch.

Delta is pretty good to. I find FA always cheaper then Delta at the stores I shop atleast. I go to michaels most of the time. You got to love there nice coupons in the local paper.

I wish I could buy bulk leon-cornell spotter brushes online I use them up to fast. I always seem to buy out what michaels has instock.

I use Delta Ceramcoat acrylic paint because it's cheap and the best available paint (in my opinion) at Walmart.

I actually like Folk Art most times. I also use Apple Barrel. AB can be a pain at times with needing to many coats. I get a good paintjob with both but with more work. In the end they look real nice.

I suggest staying away from Anita's that paint is such a pain! I had to do so many coats I was about to scrape the project. The final product looks so nice but I will not use that paint again.

I want to try some more of the expensive brands in the future. I did not try any of them really yet cause FA and AB work really good.

Experiment and try a few of the normally suggested lines and see what works best for you. Everyone gets different results with different paints.

Normal suspects are - Model Masters Acryl, Citadel, Vallejo, Reaper and Tamiya.

I love Model Masters and Citadel. Citadel Foundation Paints are great basecoat / primers. I was using Vallejo but I wasn't getting good results with 'em. Tony bought my set from and loves 'em.

There are a lot of customizers that get great results with cheapo Apple Barrel acrylics too.

Vallejo game color is the best from what I have used.(Which is Testors, Polyscale, Reaper Master Line(close second with Vallejo)) Testors is usually the most readily available when going to a hobby shop though, probably why Jin recommends it, Cause it is certainly not the best in my books, just the easiest to find.

vallejo game color is a good paint and its also used by a couple of customizers on this website, also if you go to the vallejo website they have color charts so you can decide what colors you need, hope this helps.
