Another painting question

If I'm only painting certain parts of a figure, do I still need to prime the whole thing, or just mask off the parts and paint away? Also, does it matter what kind of paint I use (I'll make sure not to use the enamels this time) if I use thin base coats and seal it with the matte spray sealer from the Sealing Customs 101 tutorial?

I would suggest you mask off what you don't intend on painting,after that prime what you plan on painting and then paint away.
