Fantastic Four ML Wave

Posted in Action Figure Chatter

So my Wal-Mart just got these in today... I have a few things to say.

Sue Storm: AWESOME fodder... beautiful figure.

Dr Doom: With a good repaint, he'll look sooooooo badarse. As it stands, he's very plain looking... no detail at all.

Namor: He looks cool, but he's not going to be very good for customizing. Too much on him is distinctly Namor... especially his shorts.

Thing: No good for customizing, but I have to admit he looks cool.

Mr. Fantastic: Meh. He's permanently sculpted in a stretch pose... no good for customizing so no good to me.

Silver Surfer: Ugh. His head is... you have to see for yourself, but it's awful.

Johnny Storm: If you take the flames off, he'd be decent as fodder. As a collectible figure he's so-so.

Mole Man: If you like the character, you'll like this fig. Quite accurate... kinda bleah as far as customizing goes though.

Surfer, Doom, and Torch would be the only ones I'd buy,

but I haven't been on any crazy toy buying sprees lately.

I saw The Thing, Torch, Mole Man, Doom and Surfer this weekend. bought Doom and Surfer thought they were pretty good. the Torch looked ok to me except that I didn't like his flaming head, Moley looked ok and I wish I had grabbed him now, the Thing has a teeny, tiny lil head that is out of proportion with his body. I think the Thing from the old TB FF boxset is the best looking version to date.

Phew! I thought it was just me that thinks Hasbro stuff REALLY suck's.

I think we have been spoiled so far with Toybiz quality!

These figures are GARBAGE! I saw them the other day at walmart and even my fiance was like " Wow they look like crap!" I think we need to sue hasbro for false advertising since the figures look NOTHING like the production shots. Horrible paint jobs, awful out of proportion sculpting and lackluster articulation. Same old hasbro. I can't wait til Marvel sees the error of their ways and doesn't renew their contract with them.

Doom is the only one I want from this series. maybe Silver Surfer - he actually looks way better than the ToyBiz version. at least in the pics I've seen.

and I agree with Maelstrom about Namor - he should be much more muscular.

Thing is a good base figure for a Monster type character or "alien god"

Hellboy, Hulk, Swampthing, Thanos, Darkseid, Clayface - are just some of the "Things" you can make out the Thing

I've seen all of these in stores now with the exception of Dr. Doom. I only picked up the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, Thing, and Namor. I am very disappointed in Hasbro's efforts over all, I will have to tweak all of the figures I was willing to buy. Only the Mole Man actually looked decent (but I didn't really want one anyway). The Invisible Woman is a fairly decent figure for fodder or alteration, but like most female figures, the face was not that attractive. The Human Torch's face doesn't even resemble the release pictures, the head looks too small and the hair simply looks ridiculous. Thing is O.K., I'm not particularly wild about the head/neck articulation. A little bit of paint apps are needed to tone down the almost 'neon' orange color. Finally a Namor is released with the green scaled trunks, but it looks like what an animated version might look like. The face is cartoonish, and the anatomy is blandly sculpted. I would also have liked to have seen "Earth's Mightiest Mortal" a little more ripped, (More Linebackerish, less Wide Receiverish) I did like the way the wings were actually on his feet though. The articulation on this one is very limited, even the hip/leg ball-joint sockets have limited range of motion. His fleshtones are very pale, but he might make a good fodder figure for some shirtless/pantsless customs. As for the figures that I did not pick up (and probably never will) Mr. Fantastic, while being in a perpetual state of elongatiiveness still looks proportionally miscaled as compared to the other figures. I think his head is twice as large as Johnny Storms. I might buy another Human Torch and remove the head and flames to make a Reed Richards to match the rest of the quartet. The Silver Surfer looked O.K., I may pick that one up after all. The Ronan the Accuser BAF is shaping up to be a fairly decent figure, but I'm not so sure I am willing to acquire all the necessary parts. I just can't understand why hasbro's figures never look like the production photos, I know, they use dramatic lighting and probably a little bit of airbrushing on photoshop. But can't they just make some better figures?.....

How much do those cost in stores? I've only seen them for insane prices on eBay.

I just went to my Wal-Mart and they had these as well, although it they only had about 6 left, no Sue or Surfer, and they also had the ML 2-packs.

So I went back to Wal-Mart last night to see if I could pick up one of those Dooms and I found the whole area picked -clean- of every last of the new FF wave. I was not happy.

I understand. Though I do have a suggestion. I could send $80 (for the figures) via Paypal + $5-10 for gas (have no idea how much that costs).
Just an idea...

Dude I wish I could help you, but we are so dead broke it's not even funny. Our gas tank can't take much more hits for anything but scheduled appointments for the next couple weeks. I will tell you the figs cost $9.99 each and as of today they had all of em... you might even be able to order them off WalMart.com... not sure. Again, I'm sorry man.

Punstarr: I want the whole wave. Do they have all the figures where you live and how much do they cost? Maybe you could help me out and get them for me?
Let me know!

Yep Sue's pretty killer... her boobs are even decent sized compared to some other ML figures (like Mystique).

I need Namor just because I don't have a figure of him yet. Sue is pretty good, eh? And yeah, Doom looked okay but he really needs a repaint...
