Custom WorkstationHey everyone,
UPDATE: My webhost had a RAID-meltdown, and broke my image links in the process. All photos are reuploaded, and now work.
* * *
I did up these shots for a few friends via PM, but I thought I'd share them with the rest of you.
I took some shots of my work this evening trying out the Syringe-Plunger technique when pouring liquid plastic into molds. It worked AMAZING.
Check out the pictures. I've included some text overlays to describe some things that might be helpful.
For the syringes, I found that I could go into any pharmacy and ask for a few of these plungers (usually I ask for 3, as that's not too many, or too little). At every place I went to, they gave me 3 or 4. At one place, the guy had my pay .25c each, but they were bigger, nicer syringes.
While my Iron Man Extremis head mold I think has a bump in it (noticeable in the comparison shot) - there was zero airbubbles. Amazing!
Of course, this is with single pieces without tiny areas (like long fingers) to get caught in - but the result was pretty amazing.
As a random bonus, a WIP's of my Extremis Iron Man - I sculpted the Extremis-style head features, and made casts of it (see above). I always have at least 5 or 6 figures on the go at any one time, but Iron man is one that nearing the final painting stages.
Process: House of M Iron man + Marvel Select Iron man should pads (mounted on superglued bits of flexible plastic) + Movie Iron man head, sculpted to look like the Extremis armor.
Let me know what you think.
Cheers,
-Blayne
