Anyone ever make a Spike Witwicky figure (from The Transformers)? I thought it'd be a fun project, and I was considering starting with a Rise of Cobra figure (under the removable vests, some have collared shirts, and they all have boots), but I'm not too happy with any of the ones I've seen so far. I'm willing to sand and sculpt, of course, so anything I could work with would be fine. I suspect I'll probably have to sculpt the boots (those big yellow boots) myself, but a collared shirt (with all its waves and such) is probably more than I can handle at this point in my customizing career). Also, that big mop of hair is tricky to find in today's figures. I'm thinking about 3 3/4", but I could be flexible on that. (I figured I could re-deco an army men figure to be an actual scale Spike for my Transformers, but a bigger one I could have more fun detailing would be a kick.) I'll be patrolling the flea markets soon, and maybe I'll find something there, but in the meantime, I'm scouring the net and retail stores.
Do you want spike from the cartoon or from the comics (which he rarely shows up and oddly has a brother named buster). Then again you have the Dreamwave G1 comics where Spike is all grown up. A lot of choices lol.
If you want to go for one based on the Michael Bay movies, maybe you could use a 3 3/4" Mutt Williams from the Indiana Jones Crystal Skull line. They're based on the same actor anyway (Shia La-however-you-spell-it), so at least the head shouldn't be too big of a problem.
