Paint crackling problem

I'm having an issue with paint on my Avalanche figure. The paint on the arms and legs is crackling. The base figure I'm using is the Hydra Agent. I used to get the same effect when I'd paint capes, I usually get this when the plastic being painted is too rubbery. Have any of you run into this? Anyone have any ideas on how to deal with it? Thanks/

I have the same problem from heat. I am waiting to paint a figure till the wether gets cooler.

It's water based. hmm, never tried scrubbing the figures first, I'll give that a shot.

is it water based or solvent based? I scrub the crap outta my figures now before painting them. I still get that orange peel effect now and then when it's too humid or hot out when I paint.
