Base figures for Custom Legomen?

Posted in Custom Workstation

Hi everyone,

A potential custom of mine wants me to create 12 identical LEGO men mini-figures based on his online comic character.

First, what's a reasonable price to charge for each figure?

I was considering using custom printed decals for each figure - but I haven't a clue what is the best kind of basic lego man figure to find on eBay.

Any suggestions?

Also - in terms of removing existing factory-printed-on LEGO mini figure decals, what process should I try to take it off?

Cheers,
-Blayne

It's this guy, with the possibility of all the other members of his 'cast':

Not the most entertaining comic, but he's looking to so some kind of stop-motion lego youtube-video thing with these customs.

He'd want this character done as one legoman with perhaps more of other characters later on. If you're interested, I'll pass along your contact info to him.

I might be able to, but it really depends on what the guy wants. I don't have as many Minifigs as I once had, and I don't really wanna buy more to customize. What does he want?

Are you (or any customizer you know) open to accepting comission jobs on custom lego minifigs? They're really outside my area of expertise / interest, and I found out the guy who wants to comission them from me wants 12 different figures so he can do some kind of stop-motion animation.

Hey, before I started on 6" figures, I used to make custom minifigs all of the time, and I was part of some of the major minifig communities. You can find a lot of minifigs on ebay, and bricklink are very good for finding lego figures. I wouldn't pay much more than 3 to 7 dollars on a Minifig, unless they are a rare figure, or from a major line, such as Starwars. Decals and accessories can be found on websites such as brickforge.com and thefineclonier.com . Oh, and Guns can be found at brickarms.

Thanks for the info! I'll check into Brasso and Bricklink if the customer goes ahead with the project.

Do you have any lego figures that are all black plastic? I sold off all my LEGO last year on eBay.

My buddy has all my legos but we have a bag of spacemen and I think some pirates. The older 80s stuff didn't survive me being little sadly. once you take the decals off they all look the same lol.

I used to scour a Lego customs forum quite a bit, so I can help a bit.

First, I suggest using bricklink[dot]com. It's sort of like an ebay for Legos. You can find pretty much everything there. You can certainly mash together different body parts for a minifig, and I know some out there have blank torsos and blank heads. Custom decals are very commonly used on blank torsos.

If you opt for removing the print, you should try using Brasso on a cloth. It's a type of metal polish, and I think you can get it at grocery stores or such. I've also heard of using a regular old pencil eraser. Just rub like hell.

Hope that helps!
