What am I doing wrong!!!

Posted in Custom Workstation

Ok I have just put out a new custom. I don't know if anyone has seen it, but its a Beast figure. I have been working on it for a long time, and I took time trying to perfect the colors and the lines and everything! So Im just wondering, why has no one said nothing about it??? I mean I don't want to sound like a baby, but I feel like Im working on my customs for my own pleasure. I feel like no one appreciates it. And I would just like to know, what am I doing wrong???

Heres some pics of the figure.

Actually I feel the same all the time, I know the feeling, you work your butt off, then get no feedback at all. I always expect atleast zero comments, lol, but again, follow the wise words of Maelstorm...

Thanks you guys. And mealstorm, I do customs for my own appreciation, its just that I would like see what other people think about my work. And when a custom of mine doesn't get any comments. I feel like I did horrible. Even though before I put it up, I believed that it was the best I had done so far. But some cases that you guys stated are true. So thanks for everything, and I will never post another topic like this ever because it makes me look girly.

P.S: Mealstorm you should be an author!

In addition to what I said earlier, there are so many customs submitted here these days that it is next to impossible to keep up with them all. I'm sure that many customs go without notice or comment just because of the sheer volume of submissions.

yup, me too, but who knows, you can inspire others as do older customs did when I searched up FR to see who previously made a certain character. If you're happy with it, then you did a superb job.

if it makes you feel any better I don't get much comment either and in the first months of me being here I started a topic just like this saying why no looks at my stuff, don't worry it's not you just remember there're 100's of dudes who will look and appreciate your work but not say anything. Hope this helps.

I agree with Maelstrom. I customize cause it's fun. If others like my stuff then it's a plus but most of my stuff isn't superhero so it gets overlooked. Look at my Baroness, she didn't get the best reviews but she's one of my favorites and so far one of my best. As long as you enjoy what you make that's all that matters.

First off, let me say that anyone (no matter what their skill level) who customizes for the appreciation or enjoyment of others is bound to be disappointed. You said that you "feel like you are working on your customs for your own pleasure"...Well, I believe that is where it all started for most of us. You have to enjoy what you are doing regardless of what anyone else thinks or you will make yourself crazy. I have looked at your previous customs and see that you have tallied 28 so far, so you are obviously no beginner as far as customizing goes. I think you have some strengths in your painting skills, you have done some nice dry brushing techniques and have done some clean paint jobs. Now since you have asked, let me give you some constructive criticism. Perhaps you could improve a little on your detail paint work, especially when painting facial features. Sculpting is an entirely different skill, and is not easily mastered. If you have not done so, you might consider taking some classes in both painting and sculpting. Also, I'm not sure what kind of clay or polymer that you are using, but some of them can be difficult to work with. Check the tutorial forums for advice on what materials are best to use.

Your Beast has some potential, the Sasquatch figure is an interesting choice for a base figure and looks like a good fit, but the facial features could use a little touching up to look less cartoonish, and the hair looks like it needs to blend in better with the original base figure's head. The hair also looks a little disproportionate and wildly out of control, perhaps this is the look you were going for, but if that's the case, you might want to make the rest of the body the same way. In addition, you might consider sculpting the belt or using a rubber band or something to give a little extra dimension. And the X on the belt could be cleaner and more symmetrical.

Lastly, don't put so much stock in other customizer's comments, don't try to please or impress them. The main person who has to be pleased with your work is you, so before you post your next figure, ask yourself if you are happy with it...would you change anything or do anything different? Also, you might want to slow down a little bit and take a little more time when you make your next custom, quality beats quantity every time. I would rather have 2 or three excellent customs posted than having 50 or so mediocre pieces. There's nothing wrong with your Beast custom, but there is room for improvement, Hell, there's always room for improvement no matter how great your work is.

Good luck

if you don't want to redo him maybe you could say its feral beast and that he's finally given in to his animal side.

I think it's a great customs though, a little rework on the head and it might very well be a great Beast figure. I also didn't see it though...

that's horrible!

as for the figure, I did not see it, and for that I am sorry. I am also sorry, because I agree with Yamivash 0... it's a pretty cool custom, but not completley acurate. If you want, I think I still have an ML beast head in my trading list you can have for a cool piece of fodder, or money (plus shipping!)

well Im not the best customizer but Ill put in my 2 cents first off the hair looks like he mixed the wrong chemicals and it blew up in his face redo the hair in more V shape and evened out more like his comic counterpart ans also why is he naked remove the fir belt and just pant the darker blue undies on or if you want it to look even better sculpt the crotch smooth and paint the undies .and the x could be straighter these are just my thoughts I am by no means saying that Im right lol but just keep with it
