really need some help

I've posted this on here before but never really got the answer I was looking for and its really starting to become a problem as its stopping me from completing my custom.

I'm trying to make a belt but the problem is im using a piece of black leather but it does actually need to be brown unless someone can suggest something better to use. also the belt needs a pattern on it but it needs to stand out and painting it won't work and I know someone did mention leather working but I don't have the skill or the tools so thats not really an option either but I was thinking that maybe there's something I could cut to shape and stick on but I'm not sure what, so any suggstions would help.
