"Nekkid" base figures

Posted in Action Figure Chatter

Almost exactly what you think. I'm not one to bash figures together. As much as I can, I would like to work with as bare and minimal as possible. What I'm trying to get to here is that I wanted to make a "skeleton" base figure to sculpt on top of. For me, as well as most of us, would like as much articulation as possible on our custom figures. Sometimes it's hard to find a good figure where the body type and joints are almost exactly what we want for our next custom.

I have found a couple of "naked" action figure bases that I would love to have a good stock of but they are a bit expensive. Right now I'm actually in the process of trying to design a system of my own to use as a naked base figure. That way I can cast as many copies and build a collection of these naked figure bases. If I lost you, I guess you can just look at the links provided to get an idea of what I'm trying to get at lol.

If you have any other resouces for "naked" base figures, feel free to post up and I'll add it to the list. Also feel free to discuss this subject.

Revoltech - This is mainly a great figure joint system. My friend Pete and I were trying to see if the joints are sold by themselves but had no luck.

MMS (Multi Moveable System) - Devoloped by Konami, this is a full body system.

Microman - Another full body system. I think Shinobitron uses some of these for his customs.

I've found these a while ago. I was thinking of using them to do customs, but they are kind of expensive.

I have found that the female 1:6 scale naked bodies from Herobuilders.com have very good articulation and muscle tone for barbarian type figures (see carlos1 in this site). However the chest area needs some""work" the service in this site is not the best but the prices are reasonable. Also the cy girl bodies can be found outhere but it can turn very expensive and you have the problem of hiding the multiple points of articulation.

I bought a Revoltech female figure online (forget the character's name) which was very "Tomb Raiderish" The figure has copious points of articulation and is very well sculpted. Some people may have a problem with some of these Japanese made figures for bases because while they are well articulated, the joints are engineered more for poseability than playability. It should be noted though, that these can be posed like no other figures that I have ever seen and they still manage to maintain fairly well hidden articulation. Also, I'm not sure what the scale is on the MMS or Konami figures, but the Revoltech figure I have doesn't seem to fit in with many other figure scales. It seems also that most Japanese made figures are geared toward the Anime/Manga style, which is fine if that is what you are shooting for, but not practical for a more realistic/anatomicaly correct figure base. It is truly very hard to find good quality figures for "nude" bases, especially for females as the industry has largely left the female figure on the back burner until recent years.
