Need help re: LEDs

Hey gang, with regards to the LED installation tutorial someone posted in this forum

Hi guys,this is helpful but I am wondering if someone could post a little more detail (for those of us who are REALLY NEW newbies), I.e.

-The proper names for each part.
-Where we can buy all these parts.
-What is a resistor, specifically with regards to this project?
-I don't see the switch in the first photo. Is there a proper name for this switch?
-I want to do (conceptually) the same thing but in a 1:18 scale plastic car - so that would mean about 5 LEDs total - one for each headlight (2), one for each taillight (2), and one for the console/cockpit (1). What would I need that's different.

Also - I assume the project you posted requires a soldering gun - what type/brand/model do you suggest? Also, how about drill bit size for drilling the eyes?
