joint re-assembly

Posted in Custom Workstation

So I boiled a Judge Dread figure to remove several parts and in the process an elbow fell off. Nothing broke, the pin just fell out. After several attempts at putting it back together, it just isn't working out. This is my first attempt at a custom, the finished product is going to be Joseph (remember that clone of Magneto from the late 90's?).

Finally got the pin back in, thanks for the advice guys. I boiled all the pieces and got it to wiggle back in. I tried several times the day I did it and left it alone for days out of frustration. Today I got it on the first try.

Replacing the pin with a tooth pick or something else that fits is easier than fitting the old pin back in.

Try it this way, boil the seperate pieces insert pin as far as it will go, boil the whole thing again and try to push the pin the rest of the way. Might work and the pin shouldn't soften as they're made of harder plastic. Don't be afraid of getting tough with it they're pretty hard to break............................................................NB: don't blame me if it does break

I did boil it again when I tried to put it back together, the pin would go through two of the three holes but I couldn't get it through the last one. Should I boil both parts of the arm and not the pin or everything including the pin?

stupid question but are you boiling it too put it back together. I find putting it in a cup of boiling water works for limbs. line it all up and you should be able to push the pin straight through the lot. if this does not work it is likely the joint has been stretched in which case a bit of epoxy in the peg holes should hold it together but it may be a tad loose
