Fodder question...

I have been sculpting most of my straps and using things like rubber bands, but every now and then I see military parts. I looked at McFarlane military stuff on yahoo every now and then and it's always waaaay expensive. Does anyone have any advice on really cheap and or affordable military fodder for 6" to 7" scale figures? :/ I might be coming into a tiny bit of Christmas cash for fun, and I wanna do some fodder shopping while I might be able to.
