Good base figure for Darkhorse-style ALIEN figure proj.

Posted in Custom Workstation

Hi everyone,

I've been creating a line of six Predator figures (resculpted JAKKS figures + NECA/McF parts) that I'll be posting in the next month -- but I realized I didn't have a single ALIEN. heh

I want to use parts of NECA ALIENs, along with magnets to make swapable heads - but my major stumbling block is a well articulated body (or bodies) that is (are) thin (allowing for sculpting), and have a good range of motion. I'd prefer joints that are almost loose, as ALIENS are really kinetic monsters, and if handled, should pose fluidly.

I've really hated the decision by NECA/McF to do cut-joints on the hips, and to always follow the movie-style, single knee look. The comics always had a better look. AvP/r figures came close, both both still were a bit goofy in their articulation.

I'm looking primarily for a torso/pelvis/legs/clawed hands like those highlighted in the pics. Doesn't need to be exact - just something I can work from.

Any suggestions are appreciated. ^_^

Thanks,
-Blayne

I googled the figure, and it's feet/claws might work really well.

I have experience doing that with a few figures - however, since I'm turning a human joint leg into a reverse joint leg (like a horses), it makes things a little trickier. I'd thought about useing Blackheart's joints (As I have one in the fodderbox), but wanted to see if there were articulation solutions I'd not yet considered.

If you like the sculpting on the figures already out there, you could use one as a base and add joints from ML blackheart or similarly articulated figure.

Actually, the witchblade figure has more of an organic look about it, rather than the Darkness - I googled both after posting. ^_^ The scale would be a bit off I'm afraid... those NECA parts are HUGE (the Aliens are close to 9" tall when standing).

What I may end up doing is creating a NECA-scale one somehow, and another ML scale using Kenner ALIEN warrior parts and a Witchblade somehow.

Suggestions/brainstorms still welcomed.

oot! I have an idea, how about one of the neca or mcfarlane aliens, then use the Darkness figure from um... I believe the legendary comic book heroes line. His arms and legs have a similar scales inlaid into a smooth body look, you might be able to salvage him into an alien with a mixture of parts?

Not the best suggestion I know, but the style popped into my head, and it'd be highly posable.
