Painting help

Posted in Custom Workstation

I want to paint small plastic weapons like sword blades, and knives, I want them to look as much like metal as possible, silver or mirror finish, how should I do this? Prime first, and what color prime to use if I should prime. Prefer a nice polished metal mirror like finish on the blades, just don't know how to do it or what paints or products to use

Well...how much are you wanting to chrome and how much do you want to spend? Nothing beats Alsa Corp's Killer Chrome. http://www.alsacorp.com/products/killer ... chrome.htm

It actually makes a mirror surface.

You could try some chrome tape, I've never used it and don't know how thick it is, if its thin it could work. Check out ebay, I searched chrome tape and there is a lot of different kinds, some are described as mirror chrome. Worth checking out.

Use a "wet sandable automotive primer" on the guns first, you can buy this can of spray paint at walmart for around $5, then use "model master acryl silver" over the primer, you can buy this @ hobby lobby, if you want some where on the guns use a wash of black over the silver and let it seep into the cracks of the sculpt, then dry brush it again with silver, check out the tutorials on these techniques.

I've never tried it but I think a silver base coat with clear nail polish might work.
nail polish might be too thick.... maybe get a gloss spray-on mod podge sealer
worth a try anyway
