Casting kits

Posted in Custom Workstation

My fiance recently got a casting kit as a present. I had been wanting to try one for a while now.

First off making a mold (2 parts) takes 2 days. One day to set each side of the mold. Second the plastic that you mix to pour into the mold sets up in like 90 sec from the time you mix it. I had a few follies but got a pretty decent wwe figure head casted. The nose and mouth didn't quite get filled in but thems the breaks, I guess. I also tried a one part mold of a ML punisher head but it didn't work right, the mold broke some and I ended up with 2 "half" headed Franks. I'm gonna try some more stuff and filmed some footage for a video I hope to make soon also.

Thanks for the tips, I'm trying to mold Punisher again so I'll try that back of the head spout, as for the WWE figure head I tried a 2nd time and poured some of the liquid plastic right on face of the mold first and then put the mold together and poured the rest through the hole and it came out damn near perfect! Very pleased

Try putting the sprue at the back of the head if the head has short hair (like punisher), that way when you pour the resin it will fill all the facial details. Also for making molds, the last ones I made I used Amazing Mold Putty, it is non-toxic (no fumes) and cures in a few hours.
