Jet Grind Radio/Jet Set Radio Future Customs!

Posted in Custom Workstation

I'm basically wanting to make custom figures of all my favorite game/cartoon series, and my all-time favorite series is the Jet Set Radio one. I've done a bit of research, and have absolutely NO clue what I could possibly use for base figures for the characters, as they're more or less more anime looking. So I imagine that I'd probably have to do 6 inch figures rather than 3.75 like I'd want to.

If anybody could give me some help with figuring out what sorts of base figures to use, that would be awesome. Thanks a ton!

Alright, sweet man. Thank you very much! Silver Surfer would work too I think, idk about Deadpool, because I'm just looking for base figures that are relatively smooth/lanky almost.

I should have 1-2 regular spiderman, I will see about any black costume spidermans, but have hulks, silver surfer, deadpool and some others and will let you know. it does not have to be money, it can be trade and I am pretty flexible. will pm you with the pics tomorrow.

Mmmk. I'll probably have to do that. I mean, I do already have 2 Spider-mans that I suppose I could sacrifice for the customs. I'm only looking for the either all-black suit or any of the regular Spidey ones, not Iron-Spiderman. Just because they're skinny and they'll work great I think for it. Also looking for 2 Juggernauts, and 2 Luke Cages, all in MU scale.

I don't have any money at the moment, but my first paycheck will be in a few weeks here, as I just got a job So lemme know what all you have and if we could do a trade or something. I could set up a trade list.

why not try and look up a few lots of MU figs and try and get as many as possible. I will go through my collection and see what I have in that scale and get back with you, if you are interested.

Ooooh boy. Well, there was a ton on eBay for like, 5 bucks a pop. But it seems those have disappeared, and any Stikfas I come across nowadays are super expensive. So I'm now finding myself having to change what I'm going to do.

Basically, I've come at this crossroads. I have essentially two choices from what I've gathered.

- Continue trying to find suitable base figures for them (I think MU Spider-man would be perfect, since he's skinny and I could just paint/sculpt over him, the only problem is buying him in bulk). Another option would be to maybe try to find something skinnier/more available/cheaper. Maybe the Power Rangers Samurai figures? Just sand them down a bunch? I dunno, if anybody has suggestions, please lemme know.

- Or just try to make models out of clay. This would require me to obviously buy the one kinda clay that you'd have to fire up in the oven (like Sculpey or something), and it'd be harder for me to get the proportions right, and probably be a lot more exhausting as far as making them, also they wouldn't have any poseability. But it'd be cheaper I think in the long run, but then again not really the option I want to use.

if I did use figures, like I said, I'd want something in the smaller scale. Because there's so many of them, and I wouldn't have the space or anything to fit them all if I used 6". Also I can't find any skinnier 6" figs.

Stickfas!? Oh man I used to buy boat loads of them! their great! I made a spiderman out of one! Spring for the g2 alpha males! They are more flexible also if you get a female you can swap those extra ball joints into them!
Best of luck!

That does look like a heck of a lot work but if your passion for this series is really that strong I say go for it, looking forward to seeing these guys and hopefully some WIPs along the way.

Found great base figures to use for the customs! In total...there's (what I'm hoping) to be about.. 47 different customs, just based on the characters from the games alone.

The base figures are really quite unconventional as far as figure customizing goes, but with a bit of sculpting, these figures are slim (as the characters generally are) and they have plenty of articulation to keep it fun and cool looking. I'm going to be using Stikfas.

Go here to get a general idea of what they are.

While they aren't exactly action figures per se, I believe they'll be phenomenal for the customs. As they seem to fit quite nicely, with the exception of the pill shaped heads (which of course, I'm going to sculpt over). Quite a few of these characters are going to require a lot of sculpting, but I know what all the hard work will DEFINITELY pay off, as this is my favorite game series of all time. My problem now, is waiting until I can get the money to purchase enough of these, and the paints, and get to work! Until then, I'll keep working on my Battletoads customs ;P

Anybody have any ideas for who I should start with first for the Jet Grind Radio/JSRF customs?

Yeah, Sota, always Sota. The Neca ones are like the Streetfighter equivalent of Hasbro Marvel Legends, pretty to look at but ultimately very dissapointing.

Gotta be SOTA. I'm guessing Remy or something since he has the slimmest build (from what I've seen of them). Of course I'll have to do a bit of research and get some money first, but it'll definitely be worth it.

with the skills you have, I see no problem. I can see you using some street fighter, ML and DCU to make everything. can't wait to see them.

Thanks you guys!

I was saying 3.75 because that's generally what I collect at (Marvel Universe, power Rangers, Star Wars, Sonic *well that's 3" but whatevs*) but I do have a few 6 inch figures (mainly Street Fighter) so I don't exactly mind using bigger figures. See, I want to be able to have decent articulation and a great look. I don't need anything super amazing, but I'm thinking for these figures I'll probably have to sculpt over their heads or something : Which means a lot of work for me, but I think I can do this.

if you want to go 3.75 you could use many different gi joes to make a lot of them with sculpt to make the details. I just think it may be easier to go 6, saw your other customs and count is right you could make some great stuff using death and others. Maybe a mix of legends and dcu, just decide if you will sacrifice poseability for look or vice versa. can't wait to see what you do.

I loved that game?! For the lead ( forgot his name?) I would use a judge death and jus sculpt out around the tiny body to make jeans and smooth the arms out. And sculpt a t shirt over it?
