Marvel Legends are really Starting to go down hill

Posted in Action Figure Chatter

Is it just me or are marvel legends really starting to loose it... I mean they have made some really awsome figures, and I am a huge fan... but these newer ones ....welll they just plain suck.

here is a good example.... great figure good joints almost everything moves well... the arms can rotate at the shoulder and the elbow has a good bend to it, the hand can open and close ,then there is

crap....looks ok but the movment in the arms is rubish and not realistic... but the thing I hate the most is the angled hips...I really hate the 45 degree hips...(sorry wolvie lol) my nefue plays with these...and he says he don't like them cos they don't move properly.... personly I don't like them cus they just arn't stable enough... I mean I had a ML5 I think it is cable... (please feel free to coreect me on which series) and no matter how ard I tried he just would not stand up for me.

to me.... marvel or hasbro who ever is behind the idea... have just gotten cheap

so is it just me?

Couldn't agree more if I wanted to!

I would like to add that my other problems with the Hasbro Marvel toys are:
Weird choice of base color for flesh
No shoulder ball joint
Incredibly inconsistent scaling

My problems with TB:
Continuos reuse of bad sculpts
Repetitive character choices
Cheap plastic in a lot of lines (ML8, ML10, ML11, ML12)
inconsistent scaling
Case build ups (I used to sell these)
Bad distribution

I admittedly don't have the most extensive collection of Legends figures, but I think that sometimes we're remembering things with a certain bias.

Toybiz did indeed have some great figures they put out, great sculpting and articulation. Good posability and a decent look.
But for every figure that had the ultra articulation (individual fingers etc..) there were figures that didn't, even within individual series:

Example: Sentinel series.

First appearance Spidey has articulation out the wazoo. Individual fingers and the raising shoulders too.
Cyclops, no individual fingers, can't even make a fist. No abdominal articulation either.

And looking back at other series, I've got a Magneto and a Phoenix staring at me and their ankles....well they hurt me. They're just fugly.

Hasbro of course has had it's problems as they learn to work with the 6 inch figures.
Horrible face sculpts on the female figures.
The single hinge joints on elbows and knees. (or occassionally ball swivels)

But generally, looking at the figures right now, on the average, the figures seem to me to have lost maybe just a little bit of articulation on occassion, not enough for the world to end though :-)

(I'm honestly not a huge fan of the individually articulated fingers either. THey work and look good on the big figures (Thing, Bishop), but look out of place on the smaller figs I have that have em. (FA Spiderman, Black Panther)

And for the hips, I think I prefer the 45 degree on the hips. I puts them in closer together instead of having the huge "package" area on the figures. :-)

oh. I'd like a giant man series thor, he looks sweet. I dunno why the horse men are using the same body for every figure now though, seems a little on the cheap side.

Well, they're not like employees of Mattel, they're freelance sculptors hired by Mattel to do the sculpting, they've done sculpts for Toybiz, like WM Thor, and the Apocalypse BAF.

They also apparently did the sculpting for the new NECA Ninja Turtles

4 hours men are working for Mattel, I doubt they're gonna do anything for a competing company

What Hasbro needs to do, in order to make their MLs better, is actually start painting figures, and hire the 4 Horsemen to sculpt them.

Earl 89' is when Toybiz Enter the Toy Market Or at least The Oldest Card I Have In storage!
Matel Had the Marvel Rights before that and they made the Secret War Line And there Was 3 lines in the US and a forth In Europe! But Whatever I might be off. It was a Long time ago, And I sold those off. I don't Want to go in to the What cheap 3rd world nation is making them Thing, Baf Idea Was the coolest thing Toybiz came up with I mean Look it What Cool figures Came from it, Sentinal Is my No1 Gaint-Man No2 Galactus No3 I mean Thats a Great Idea On two Fronts One of Each Figure in that line must be Bought (some I really didn't want To but did) And 2 Profit is made off that line! Ok So the Joints Are Crap on some of the Figures. toybiz Had the over all Best Joints on there figures and Hasbro IS well Not doing so hot on them! Cheaping out after what 18 Lines in ML's is what its comeing to Or hasbro Just try to pull there head out of there Butt! I don't know! I mean I never seen THe Modak Line Hit store IN my part of the world THat was When The change over happend But I did get them Off "COUGH" Bay for 35 bucks! Is Hasbro Going to keep ML's A strong Line? I Don't know! Do I like The Marvel Legends? Yes I'm A fan Of the comics and the Toys are pretty cool! The point is We as collector's Have to Make our Choice To Buy or Not to Buy! Because when you change you mind You pay More for that Figure or Line Later on! And we all know that! I think that sum's that Up in a Umm Something!

the problem I have with hasbro is that they destroyed the formula for marvel legends that toybiz had built up for them, and over three series of crappy figures lost lots of money. because they were unable to listen to the complaints of the community, they have hooks full of their figures, and are now changing the entire format of legends away from the amazing build-a-figures to useless overpriced twopack, which seem to mostly use old toybiz sculpts. they messed up their chance to make an amazing toy line even better, and are making the collectors and customizers pay for their lack of foresight.

yeah, I think you gotta cut toybiz slack, cause look at all the great stuff they could've LEARNED from!!! and yeah, I don't think they were really busting their balls to make great toys

you know I am just glad its not me.... to be honest I spend sooooo much money which I don't have in these dan toys... and I think I'm gonna stop... unless they start making the with proper arms and 90 dgree hips. thanks for all your feed back... makes me felll bit better. so do we have any sujestions about any option we can take to resolve this? (also does anyone know if any of the legendary heros have 45 degree hips.... if so which ones? (please say not pitt))

you do have a point but the first 4 series of marvel legends were cutting edge for all action figures. they were articulated more than the usual figure and plus since toy biz came out with the ML's every toy company is coping there ideas and plans. even power rangers are starting to copy the ML's idea.

You have a valid point there...The early efforts by ToyBiz were pretty crappy, but I'm not sure how long Toybiz had been around when they first started the Marvel line. Having said that, they really came a long way by the time the Marvel license was transferred to Hasbro. However, I can't cut Hasbro just a whole lot of slack. We're talking about a major toy company that has been around for many years, it's not like they are cutting their teeth on making toys or producing action figures. I think that (like most major corporations) the bottom line is how much money they can make (and how much they can save in production values as well). So since they have a major franchise product in Marvel Comics that will always sell itself, they may not feel compelled to hire top-notch sculptors or use quality paints and materials. I'm sure there is a wealth of Third-World-Country sweat shops that they have to choose from for production and assembly, and they probably almost always opt for the lowest bidder.

I Do agrue With you! but Hasbro is Tring New ways of making them! Marvel legends are new to Harbro so they'll make mistakes!(And Bad ideas!) Toybiz Was no better at the Start of the Marvel Legends 1-4 were Kinda Lame when looking back from the other series Toad being the lamest one! So basiclly Im Giving Harbro the same 1-4 line to show me Something and From what I've seen Of the New Figures coming out this year THere geting the Act together
THe Two packs Look Fantastic , I;m Cofused about the Fantastic four two pack, But Wizard could be on crack again! And the Swap out US Agent With a Black Wolveirn Why I don't know but I was hoping that I'd See US agent in a line But I geuss not, maybe he in one of the Two packs that they haven't Said yet! I hope! But In all Fairness Toybiz Screwed up a lot more with there ML's then Hasbro yet and Aside from the bad paint Which I blame Rushing the Product out the door! And My last thing That Make me Want send Bad E-mail to Marvel IS the How many Iron Man And Wolverin Clones can they make! What can't they just Do a line Like the Classic Spider man or X-men If THe want to Make the same Wolvirne, IronMan In diffrent Outfits! Wow I was on A Rant there Sorry!
