Movin On Up!

Posted in Custom Workstation

Well I'm looking to upgrade the supplies I use for customizing like new sculpt and MAYBE a new brand paint.
I was looking at Aves Apoxie Sculpt.I wanted to know is that the best I can get?
What tips do you have for usage?
Also I can't stress this question enough but is it smooth?

Now about the paints I was wondering is this something that would be okay for use for this? Its Tayima brand but The strange toothpaste bottles are what are throwing me off.

if these aren't good is there a good brand to get close to as much for around that price?

What is it that seperates fixit form apoxie?

Fixit sculpt has a longer working time then apoxie does, it is also stronger once cured, and retains more shape while curing so you have less chance of thin pieces like strands of hair drooping. It also works with water very nicely like a normal sculpt while apoxie requires the purchase of aves safety solvent to work that way. I also just simply find it easier to work with, when I work with fixit my sculptures seem to turn out so much better, but that's a personal preference, I still use apoxie a lot to save money.

Those paints sure look like they were meant for canvas. In fact Basics is a nrand I used to use when I painted way back when. I've used cheap craft paint though for customs which works with a fixative sprayed first and several coats after and requires a full light sanding. The reason they make hobby paints is for adherence to certain surfaces. The mixtures are tested for plastic and such. You can try animation cell paint if you want a step up. It's what professional sculpors who do Bowen-esque type sculpts use. It isn't a huge price difference. Fixit sculpt is as good as it gets though.

The 2 part plumber putty works too and oddly enough it smells just like Aves yet a tube of it is only 7.00.

I agree with everyone on the aves, but if that's not available you can always use grey stuff or green stuff 2part compound as for paints I would recomend citadel and formula p3 acrylic paints and tamiya clear color paints it's what I used on my custom Gaurdian you liked

I've tried most of the different sculpts and I've found aves fixit sculpt to be the best with apoxie sculpt coming in close seccond. As far as I figure with paints the more the marier, I buy many different brands to get different effects.

While I'm not familiar with those paints, I can tell you you will probably have to thin them a whole lot. Preferably with windex. Try em out and see what happens. As far as sculpt, Aves is the way to go. Check the distributer link on their website for a place near you. The shipping is almost as much as the product. The trick with aves is timing... Which details to imprint at what firmness. Unfortunately its just experience. HAVE AT IT!!
