3 Techniques?......anyone!?

Posted in Custom Workstation

Hello it's me AGAIN, I know Ugh, I have 3 techniques that I need to know how to do:

1. how to make a battle damaged/ worned down armored suit (iron man)

2.How to paint/make Beard stubbble/peach fuzz/ five o'clock shadow

3. How to make a figure look somewhat dirty (example like he was working in a auto shop and his clothes and skin got dirty from the dirt and oil and what not.

THANKS

>1. how to make a battle damaged/ worned down armored suit (iron man)

Mimic the damage you're trying to model. Picture say, Iron Man in a fight. Then take tools and apply damage as if he were being punched or dragged or exploded. So for dragging, drag him across sandpaper. For punching, drill a shallow hole, then chip away from the center. For an explosion, imagine where the smoke/scorch is coming from, maybe by shining an intense light across the figure and adding black to the lighted sections.

In effect, give him SPECIFIC damage from individual blows, not "generic" damage.

>2.How to paint/make Beard stubbble/peach fuzz/ five o'clock shadow

I use mechanical pencil. The advantage is you can just keep adding it until you get it right. The disadvantage is it will smear if you touch it. Apply, then mist lightly with Dullcote three times until it's set and protected.

Same for damage. Watch a Three Stooges short to see how ink or oil splatters.

My free advice, worth every penny.

1. Give your base figure to a kid for them to play with outside, dirtier the better, tell them to give it hell and the mess they'll make would probably be enough to look battle damage . If no kids are available do it yourself, bash him on the pavement, throw him at trees etc just give hima real rought time, if not startegic dremmeling would work too but I think you'd get more realistic damage by actually damaging him.

2.Countpichula used a small heated needle to make his I believe, not sure on that but I know he has done a great stubble effect on his Wolverine WIP.

3.I'd do some drybrushing to add grime and such

Hope that helps a lil bit
