Need a custom base for a Thanos-like character. Suggestions?

Posted in Custom Workstation

I need a body to make a DBZ character named Lord Slug. I thought Thanos would be a good idea, but all the figures seem to have boots and gloves that are too large. I'm not very familiar with Marvel/DC characters. Can anyone make a suggestion for characters who are
1) big but not Hulk-size
2) wearing spandex pants
3) mostly bare arms or with gloves

I am looking at making him between 5.5 and 6 inches, but if you can suggest characters to me, I'll do the hard work on ebay.

I decided on the cheap Magneto figure (I didn't buy the one with chewed off hands I pictured though). With a small amount of lengthening to the shins and forearms he'll be very good. With all the sculpting I'm going to do, the ball jointed shoulders on the other one would work, plus they look complicated. Thanks for the help. I know when I post here I can always get some help!!!

I don't think you are going to find anyone with a Thanos like body in the Marvel Legends line. If you like the Magneto base it's also the same body used on the first Iron Man, and War Machine if that helps in locating one.

Magneto is looking pretty good... didn't know he was this beefy.

Sucks that this one is a bit short. I remeasured and I need the figure to be closer to 6 inches.

Thanks for continuing to try to help me out!

I think Luke Cage is too normal looking. He isn't beefy enough. I used to own a Marvel Legends Captain America (when ML first started) so I remember about how big he was and I bet Luke Cage is only about his size, so he isn't beefy enough.

here's a pic of the character I'm wanting to make, but I am wanting to make him with his full costume on (sleeves, gloves, helmet).. He's more of the Thanos body type than Luke Cage type. Try to ignore how big his arms look in this shot, the first pic is a better representation.

The AOA Sabretooth isn't ideal just because his shoulders are really weird and that'd be super hard to fix. He's not quite stout enough either.

This is closer to the correct body type. Those huge gloves and boots are just such a problem! They're unusable and I don't have replacement hands or boots the right size, so I ideally need to not have to replace parts, just sculpt over parts. Plus... Thanos is a bit TOO beefy.

Are there any other Marvel characters who are the same body type as Thanos without some of the incredible bulk? What about DC characters? Street Fighters? Anything other line? I thought about WWE figures, but Lord Slug isn't within human proportions, and wrestling figures have proportions that are too natural. I was thinking about characters like Venom, ones that a beefy, but not to the point of being insane like Hulk.

Maybe a Luke Cage, or an AOA Sabertooth? Or even a Frankenstein for that matter.

Green skin, my ideal size is 5.5 to 6 inches, 6.5 at the very, very most.

Hulkling looks absolutely perfect, please measure him!

Also, it isn't incredibly important I use someone highly articulated. I would prefer ball jointed shoulders, and hip articulation. That's my only real goal. Knees would be good.

How aboot hulkling?? from the young avengers pack, you can pick him up fairly cheap and I think he's about the size you're looking for, I'll measure him shortly.

Yikes, 7 and 3/4 is too big. Thanks for measuring him! Shapp, maybe Jug would work... the hands are huge though... do you have one you could measure for me?

lol thanks, I'm at work and I can't always see if the links work or not. Sometimes they are just blocked by my company and may work for others and not just me lol.

Fantastic suggestions, thanks for the suggestions. I was hoping for some cheaper figures, but Thunderball/Piledriver is arguably really good. Is there anybody who sells for cheap who is about like them? Also, do you own him? Could you measure his exact height please?

Thunderball/Piledriver maybe? Or perhaps one of the SOTA Streetfighter figures like Zangief or ehonda.
