16" Sentinel - Couple Questions

Posted in Custom Workstation

Hi there, I'm new to this site and new to collecting action figures. My primary hobby is plastic scale model kits. I also love comics (of course). Growing up in the 1970's, X-Men were my favorites. I was blown away by the Dark Phoenix series, as well as Days of Future Past, etc, etc.

Which leads me to my first action figure purchase... the Hasbro Marvel Universe 16" Sentinel with 3.75" Wolverine. I know, may as well start off with a bang.

I purchased the figure because there is a distinct lack of any large Sentinel plastic scale model kits. My thinking is I might do some modifications (putty, paint, etc) and turn him into a static model diorama. Maybe even try to recreate the scene where wolverine was killed in the future. I would putty over the joints, of course. So the articulation would be gone but with the benefit of added realism.

But I'm curious - has anyone seen this Hasbro Sentinel figure customized in any way? I've searched this site and Google and couldn't find any customized versions of it?

On a more general note, do people on this site often putty over joints to create a more realistic look - sacrificing articulation in the process? Or is that pretty much going off course from what action figure customizing is all about?

Sorry for the meandering post...

Thanks,
George

Thanks for the shout Pock . All I'd say when making a figure static is to look up some real life examples of anatomy, they'll help you fill the joints properly and make them look more natural, go slow and add sculpt bit by bit, it's much easier to add more than take it away.

Thanks! That's perfect. That's not easy to find on your own.

Thanks Pock63!

How can I look at an individual user's gallery of customs? So when you say to check out some customs Darthomas, for example, I got to his profile but I can't see any way to look at his topics so I can peruse his stuff.

Thanks again

I've seen some customs using that sentinel base the most impressive of which was a conversion of the sentinal base into an anti monitor from DC comics, although I can't remember who did that. Turning action figures into statue's is relatively common practice among customizers with mixed success. If you'd like to see how it can be done and work out I'd suggest looking through hemble's customs and also darthomas's work. I hope that helped
