leg extensions

I am currently working on a figure that needed slightly longer legs. There is a joint in the thigh of the figure which is where I chose to extend it. The top part that connects to the torso is hard plastic and has the peg. The bottom part is soft plastic and has the hole. I extended the top part and made a new peg out of aves apoxie sculpt. I have made two attempts both resulting in the peg breaking off after I re-attach the leg.
Any suggestions on how to make the new peg stronger?
