Things you absolutely hate on action figures

Posted in Action Figure Chatter

This are the things I most hate about figure:
Scale, like they make Rey Mysterio size of Undertaker, or Wolverine size of Sabretooth, there's no scale, there should be a norm about figure sizes, a 1 to 10 scale from figures to real persons, like 2 inches (5 cm) would match 20 inches (50 cm), that would so much better.

action buttons, like big large stuff on the back that you push to activate some stupid action like lifting one arm, that not only ruins the beauty of the figure, it also screws up the whole articulation points set up, plus it makes it more difficult to play with the figure, if you want it to do anything besides that particular action, and to top it all, after a while the action doesn't even work that well

Stupid articulation spots, like in joe fixit http://www.figurerealm.com/phpBB2/viewt ... highlight=
the wrist articulation, they could be just a little lower and it would be between arm and glove, smooth, but instead they break the arm, and it's not even a simple arm, it's all filled with muscle and veins, totally ruins the figure, when I bought the figure the coat was on, other wise I would have thought twice.

hidden detail in a stupid way, like most undertaker figures, that have Sarah written on the neck, then have the head in such manner you can barely read it.

that's all for now, tell me what you hate, and what you think about my hate list

Limbs that fall off. Neca's good at this. Arms fall off or the hair falls off lol. Unarticulated hands, I mean not every figure needs them but once in a while would be nice. So few accessories, or good ones.

his ml wasn't that bad, he needed more accessories and a sheath for his sword... I made one a taskmaster just because I know the udon style will never be done

Yeah, Taskmaster deserves an action figure, especially since his ML figure is so disappointing

indeed, I wish they'd do more taskmaster figure... by far my favourite character of all time!

There's just as many Wolverine comics running, and he guest-stars in every other book. He's also a member of X-Men, X-Force, and New Avengers at the same time! ...and it's just as annoying.

Badly-fitting accessories. There used to be a Wolvering figure with a glowing gun that you placed in his hand, but it didn't actually FIT in his hand, it just sorta hung limp like so many dead salami slices. And then there was that Ka Dargo figure who was given an amazingly cool sword that didn't fit in either of his hands. Smart, people.

I hate when figures have a aweful paint job, and little articulation or rather like one of my figure, hove articulation in uneeded partsa but not so much on the desired limbs and such.

Oh and those dumb "action" gimmick things. Which are lame.

It seems most all comic figures are following this trend, whether it be Marvel or DC, and it stinks! The Wolverine line, the Marvel Universe line, The DC Infinite Heroes line. It seems that the only way to get what were once normal sized figures are through comic-shops. And if they're gonna make em half-sized, make em half-priced!

"action" features.

And by that I mean a big ugly piece of LUMP sticking out of an otherwise great figure.

McFarlane's later Spawn lines were notorious for this, but darn did they look pretty!

Yay I saw some of them and they were very nice loocking.

Packages that waste space. Transformers anymore are guilty of this. I'd rather have them in smaller package, TFA always has a lot of wasted space in their packages. More streamline packages would make it easier to display in the package. Odd shaped packages like the 6" TF Titaniums that were angled upward make it hard to display and store.

1.Bad paint-wrecks potentially decent sculpts
2.Bad sculpt-looks bad
3.Hideous Marvel legends balljoint hips-there are ways to hide articulation and still keep the joint moving
4.Equally hideous balljoint shoulders-see above
5. Action features-The buttons are unsightly, they limit articulation and actually make a figure less fun.
6. Fabric on any figure smaller than 1/6-just looks odd
7. Grotesque female headsculpts-even Neca and Mcfarlane suffer from this occasionally. Male characters are generally better sculpted.
So concludes my pointless rant.

My Huntress figure from the Batman: Hush line is doing that, and it's maddening! Because the way it's packaged I can't just set it on a shelf either.

I hate when figures are so heavy that when packaged and hung on a peg the bubble separates from the card at the top. The MOTU staction figures suffered terribly from this.

Scale and proportions, ex: ML6 deadpool! Tiny feet and long arms, small head, WTF? That and lack of accessories. Most
ML figures don't have any that should! Punisher, 1 or 2 guns, come on?!

Amazingly my Gideon's survived despite the tortures I put him through. Cable wasn't so lucky lol. How about those obvious mold lines where you can see where the parts are connected? I mean there has to be a way to smooth/improve the fit.

I hate figures that have pony-tails made out of plastic, and connect to the figure at a point that is incredibly thin. Figures like Gideon and Shatterstar from the 90s X-Men line. Those pony-tails are going to break off, it's just a matter of time.

Repaints. How many repaints/reissues of one figure do we need? The TFA line has like 8 repaints of the same bumblebee mold. The joints used in ML figures. They'd be so much better if they'd get the rights to use Revoltech joints. There has to be something better than what they use now.

Detail that is painted on instead of sculpted. Sure it costs more to make a new mold for Hasbro but come on. they released like 70 Marvel figs and about 40 of them had the Bullseye body. or were the Hulk or Wolverine.

The proportions have always been annoying for us TF collectors. The movie figures are better but then you get into the lack of articulation complaint. Lack of accessories annoys me. Hasbro should have made accessory upgrades so you could equip your punisher or other figuers with new gear.

ridiculous shading that makes the figure look like it's in a dark, dramatic scene even when it's broad day light out. why can't we just leave shading to the natural surroundings??

A figure without the head bieng a ball joint. I mean, ya, most figure heads are different, but wouldn't it be easier to have all figures with a ball joint as the head, and all the same sizes, so like that it would be easy to switch heads and have fun!

I hate figures with ball joints on the legs wich atach strait up instead of sideways so that the leg can't actaly turn.

I AGREE TOTTALLY
I also hate on baf that the parts don't lock into place - you shouldnt have to drop some super glue in for it to lock in place and take the chance that it will ruin it and be stuck for ever
and you say mattel I say to hasbro also
I hate finding all but 2 pieces of a fff set or rulk
make all the pieces even ship to make even sets don't short pack spiral that is the one that everyone wants
who cares about absorbing man or docsamson
quit stocking the shelves with cheap undersized movie figures of the hulk - I would be ashamed to put that out hoping kids buy that I don't see a single kid looking at that crap
across the board all brands dc, marvel lcbh
make em all and imean all movie or not 6" base being the average of 6 foot
make the baf true - don't waste our time with ares who was the same size of crossbones or ronan
god I hated spending that kinda money for a figures I didn't want for one I could of made with a wrestler
start making some cosmic beings or inhumans or something else that is worthy of bad status

Oh yeah big point, bad accessories, I mean sometimes you gotta pay tons for some big mechanical missile base cause it comes with a figure you can't find else where, and you don't want those accessories for nothing, but they are so big and heavy, makes the package allot more expensive

Bad proportions.
Dumb accessories.

Yes thats exactly what I meant!
But at the same time they target different views of the same hero at different age groups, which makes sense but can still be a bit offensive taking all the characters back to their campy early days, it was fun but realistic isn't all that bad
Quite frankly I rly thought it was good for Superman to drop the "Up Up and Away" thing. AS well a certain some ones VERY campy catchphrase "Great Hera" but I'm not even gonna go there lmao

Speacial edition "action" figures....(You know the dumb gimmick figures with some goofy mechanism)
I don't care for stylized but no cartoony please! Anime and Manga are another story though
Figures WITH articulation but SCULPTED in a pose, it just really defeats the whole purpose of having action figures and statues seperate....
Poor articulation or dumb nuff said
Bulkychunkycruddy pieces that ruin a whole figure
Hard or dang near impossible to find.....
I could go on but dinners almost done

10. Bad paint application or lack thereof. (not real high on my list as this is usually easily fixed).
9. Deformations...gouges, warped spots, and the ever dreaded misplaced limbs/two left hands/two right hands/left hand on right arm/right hand on left arm, etc...(pick any combination).
8. Badly engineered or usless articlation. (sticky joints that break when you try to move them, articulation in stupid places, and articulation that alters the look of the character)
7. Ridiculous prices.
6. Cartoonish/unrealistic sculpts.
5. Having to buy a gazillion figures that you don't like or want to make a BAF, there should be a limit (5).
4. Lack of availible distribution, Yeah I'm talkin to you MATTEL! Get your act together!
3. Unskilled sculpts.
2. Lack of articulation. (I hate it when a figure is unposeable, or will not fit an accompanying vehicle or accessory, have to poop standing up, etc...)
1. Stupid 'action features'. (especially ones that alter the look of the character).
